Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Spotlight block

This is a block that focuses light on the block it is pointing at.
The way it faces when placed works like a piston or dispenser.

That is how light would illuminate with this block’s concept
This would be useful for having light shine from the roof of a tall building and having light reach the ground at night without putting torches all over the floor.

    Spotlights are very useful, they can be used to display objects and make horror maps!

    I don't understand, is the light beam shrinking on your diagram? Wouldn't that be more logic if it was spreading (and maybe losing intensity) instead? Normally, the higher a spotlight is, the larger is the light spot.

    Now that Mojang plans to add crystal/amethyst, which is used to craft telescopes, it could be used to craft floodlights too! (I was thinking about lenses made with a half-diamond before they announced the Caves & Cliffs Update.) It adds a new reason to find and exploit geodes, and it makes sense because spotlights are powerful.

    i was about to post the same. also had a thought, what if the spotlight effect was a modifier block? a LENS?

    so.. place a torch, then a 'LENS' block. the lens block then takes the light input and sends it as far in that direction as possible, until the light hits a block or travels 'x' chunks.

    the benefit of the 'lens' block is that redstone signals could then be transferred 'wirelessly' a redstone lamp at either end of the 'lens' block chain would transfer their states over 'x' ticks
