I have flown across the huge gaps in the end a few times and every time I have the F3 info open. The debug info is a necessity because there is no other way to tell if you are climbing or falling in first person. If you don't know what your Y coordinate is, you will arbitrarily die by hitting an invisible floor. Everything about it just breaks immersion. Below are a few solutions to this problem:
- Animate the arms of the character in first person to rotate up if falling or down if ascending.
- Make The End skybox horizon a lighter color.
- Add noticable stars or static to the skybox.
In any case, I think a change to the end or elytra animations would be beneficial for the game.
