Have you ever been on an exploration away from your base, and all of a sudden found yourself lost with no clue how to get back? How about been on the hunt for end cities but not a single one in sight? How about lost in a cave while searching for diamonds? Well I have come up with an idea that could help with all these problems with little to no hassle at all! I call them, "XP Grimoires".
Say you were away from your base, and searching for monster spawner's. But you got lost along the way. You need to get back home, but you don't want to just die and spawn again without your findings. These XP Grimoires would look similar to enchanted books. But instead of binding them to an item, you equip it and use it to guide you back home.
How does it work? In order to use the Grimoires you sacrifice some of your XP and your character glows green like the XP balls. Then a floating ball of XP guides you to the area in which your grimoire was inscribed with. Say in this instance, home base.
However in order for this Grimoire to function you need to have placed a guide post at your base. Without a guide post, you can't use the Grimoire.
Now say you were in the end and were looking for an end city. Not all the cities but a small number would already have guide posts at them. To allow you to use the Grimoire inscribed with the words "End City".
Each Grimoire would require a different XP requirement in order to use them. For your home base, say you needed 15 XP. End City, 20 XP. Monster spawners, between 10-18 depending on the amount of XP each spawned would give you if farmed.
In short, the idea here is to allow for ease of access for players to find their way back home, or the path to great loot or their inevitable doom.
