Also, the amount of blocks dropped would equal the damage done to the axe. Similar to tree capitator mod but without the slower mining speed. Voting for this one for sure.

I agree, this is something that was needed ever since trees were able to grow much larger than originally within the beta phase of the game. It seems that after that change, they never gave us an easy way to cut down a larger tree. Seeing floating debris is a pain and also leaves need to decay FAR faster than currently. Mods like tree capacitors have been a requirement for me ever since beta. It's a very unpolished mechanic, it's time for a change.

I agree, however it should be a game rule change or an enchantment.

This would mean turning naturally-generating logs into gravity blocks. Updating them by cutting them down should make them fall, and any branch/log that falls on player would do damage. This lets player cut down logs as they fall instead of “instantaneously breaking upper logs like bamboo”. Logs caught in leaves would eventually fall as leaves disappear (when top central log falls). If people still want floating trees, they can cut them using silk touch axes.
Having trees be easier to cut down like this means trees can be taller to make traversing through forests feel better than just walking through a maze of leaves.
Logs placed by players would not act like gravity blocks, but if you want them to, waxing them would return them to natural.
*Gravity blocks refer to how sand & anvils fall.
