In Minecraft now, the endgame is so simple. Everyone goes for full Diamond Armor with Protection IV, and a Sword/Axe with Sharpness V. It's too basic. We need variety in PvP, a way to make someone unaware of what will happen in a battle. Splash Potions, Fire Aspect, TNT, and Bows are a good start, but they aren't enough. Here's what I propose:
I say there should be two types of damage. Kinetic, and Magic. Each method of doing damage that we currently have will be put in to either category. For example, a Sword will deal Kinetic damage, while a splash potion of poison will deal Magic damage. Another could be how Bows arrows would deal Kinetic damage, while Fire Aspect on a sword would deal magic damage.
Normal armor would protect against Kinetic damage by default, since the Kinetic weapons and damage are much easier to attain, like swords and axes, compared to potions and enchantments. I propose one of two ideas.
1. We add a new enchantment, titled "Magic Protection I, II, III, IV" which is essentially the same as Protection except it protects against Potions, fire, etc. Normal armor would no longer add any defenses against potions, or fire aswell.
2. We add a new type of armor entirely, one which is specific to protecting against magic/alchemy instead of Kinetic Damage.
If one of these two is added, people will have to decide whether they become a fighter who is defensive against kinetic/magic damage, or a mix of both. Perhaps half your armor would be enchanted with Protection while the other half is enchanted with Magic Protection. Or if we go with 'route 2' you are wearing magic defensive pants and boots while wearing kinetic defensive chestplate and helmet.
Current combat is dull and uninspiring. Everyone looks the same, and feels the same. We need a way to mixup players and our situations. I believe this is how we do just that. I have always felt that Armor shouldn't defend against potions and fire, but they shouldn't instantly win fights either. This is the best alternative.
