Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Bone meal and charcoal is way to cheap and unrealistic. It should be crafted with Blaze powder, coal and rotten flesh (to represent sulfur, coal and saltpeter).

The actual ingredients of gunpowder are charcoal, sulphur, and saltpeter.  Charcoal is already in the game. A brimstone block could be added to the basalt deltas that could be crafted (or better yet, ground with the grindstone) to create sulphur.  For saltpeter, maybe niter could be found in the new dripstone cave biomes being added.  The actual ratio is usually around 75% saltpeter, 15% charcoal, and 10% sulphur.  So maybe a shapeless 3x3 with 6 or 7 saltpeter/niter, 2 or 1 charcoal, and 1 sulphur, resulting in some number of gunpowder (should depend on how hard sulphur and saltpeter are to obtain).

Thanks to YouTube user @colehan for the basalt deltas idea.  The best I could think of was something to do with netherrack.

I play with a custom behaviour mod of my own currently, the recipe is relatively easy to add, but I'd like to see the following added officially:

    bone meal + flint + coal/charcoal = gunpowder

It's fun and makes mining more entertaining by exploding everything!

10000% agree with the ingredients, could even use shells to get potassium nitrate, dripstone could be good to collect niter so in 9 blocks, 3 of charcoal, 4 shells, and 2 of sulfur
