Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Climbing picks

The climbing picks will be crafted with 4 iron in an upside down L shape. Three iron in a vertical line, one iron to the left or right of the line in the top row of the crafting table.

This will give you climbing picks. (Though it's only one item it's still called climbing picks.)

They will do the same damage as a pickaxe, but they're main use is unique to all other tools.

When holding the climbing picks, walk into a wall and press jump. instead of jumping you will start climbing up the wall at the same speed of climbing up a ladder.

For every block you climb up it will use 1 durability and it has a total of 300 durability.

I dont have good names for these yet but some possible enchantments are.
Faster climb: self explanatory, each level of this enchantment will raise your climbing speed a bit.
Unbreaking: obviously.
Strong pick: allows you to break blocks above you with the climbing pick while climbing, will use 1 durability for each broken block and will be inbetween the speed of a wooden pickaxe and a stone one.

That's all I've came up with, I think this would be really great for exploring without using a bunch of blocks or ladders.

    Mending would also work, I like this idea and this would also slow for a more nomadic lifestyle.

    I like this idea but I think it's not intuitive to press jump. I would prefer a left or right click

    Instead of climbing as if you where in a ladder I think you should press right click to hang from the edge of a block which has no blocks above, then press jump to climb that block

    Minecraft is about 10 years now and we see that games like botw and others recently have been using wall climbing to let the inexperienced players go wherever they want easily and I feel like it's about time for Minecraft to give these players some benifit since they tend to appeal to the casual audience and it can also give the more hardcore fans more in depth mechanics to game too. Everyone wins here

    Also makes ender dragon much easier too
