Hello, everybody! I am a fellow Minecraft player, and I have noticed that ever since infinite worlds were more practical, maps aren't as well to use anymore.
For example, when I play on survival with another player and we run off the map somewhere, if I was to try and search for the other player they would just be off on the edge of the map, with no indication of where exactly they are.
A counterargument for this could be that you could just make several Locator Maps, but that's too pricey just to look for somebody.
So my idea is that with a specific crafting method, you could make a 'Global Map'!
Basically, it's a electrical map that is meant for infinite worlds. You can zoom in and out with it, and with a compass (please make these more useful), you could put pinpoints on the map, and have the compass point toward that spot.
Or, (please don't hate me for this, this idea was borrowed from Fortnite. I don't play that game anymore.) you could see a light (or just indicator) in the real world to see and go towards.
With this new map, you can place several pinpoints for places you've been. (Example, a pinpoint named 'My House' Position: -149, 78, 321)
You can also left hand this map for a smaller map that moves with you.
All and all, I just want maps to be more flexible for infinite worlds, with the same for compasses. (make them go towards your spawn point for beds, I don't think anyone is concerned enough to want to go back to their original spawn point.)
Thank you for reading, and please help Mojang see this!
