Villages have always had issues of defense. The Iron Golem is fine, but very rare. Which makes sense, seeing how powerful it is. Well, here's a suggestion to balance this!
We now have the Wandering Trader, an interesting villager who owns a couple llamas. As I played with this feature, I found myself wanting to see llamas and villagers more. They seem like a perfect fit, and this idea sprang up.
So, here's my suggestion. First, a new profession of Villager would be useful. For this suggestion, I'm calling it the "Caretaker". This Villager would work in the stable Structure, where llamas, as well as horses, would spawn. It would buy wheat from you, as well as hay, wool, leads, carpets, and saddles. It also would sell one unique item, called the Harness. Using three items, (Harness, Saddle, and one dye,) you can craft Llama Armor, which increases a Llama's defense, and gives it a special ability.
When equipped, Llama armor makes llamas behave in a protective way, chasing down any zombies, skeletons, or spiders that come within 30 blocks of a wooden door (any type). They will spit, and also be able to kick any close hostiles. If possible, it would be nice if they stay in nearby stables during the day, and emerge at night. The Villagers won't have to fight, just "train" llamas to.
Llamas behave this way in real life. They will defend herds of animals they are familiar with against predators, literally kicking and screaming. I would have suggested a bond mechanic instead of the armor, but that seems a bit too complex for Minecraft.
Thank you for listening to my suggestion! I welcome any feedback, or questions, in the comments. Be sure to vote for this if you want to see it in Minecraft!
