In survival dipping a metal item or tool into a lava filled cauldron (lava filled cauldrons are a bedrock exclusive currently) should be part of the repair process for metal items/tools.
The item/tools could then be given a red tint to show they’ve been dipped then after you’ve repaired the item/tool in an anvil (to preserve your enchantments) or a grindstone (to remove enchantments) dipping it in a water filled cauldron could cool it.
This would provide a use for the cauldrons ability to now hold lava and be an interesting mechanic, perhaps the reward for doing these optional extra repair steps saves XP if done in an anvil and restores the item to max durability if done on a grindstone (even if both items are really low durability)?
