I am proposing that the Minecraft experience system should be retooled with an added skills system of sorts, for example experience points and levels can be put into a repairing skill which would enable you to repair higher tiers of items in an anvil and consume materials to which you would be rewarded with experience. Enchanting can still have exp consumed as it could be considered manifesting knowledge or something and transcribing it onto an object, or even have that just consume some gems from which magic is channeled through. In summary I propose adding more progression and providing more use to experience points and making it feel more like a thing rather than being irritated that you can't do anything when you die because all the exp you've harvested/gained that you needed is lost and have to start over from a small amount of xp compared to what you had.
