Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Skis

Hello, 

I think it would be neat to add skiing to minecraft. As a skier myself I must say you are almost stuck like you are a minecraft player. I think it would be neat to add as a faster method of transportation on snow. They could be crafted by placing the following materials vertically on both sides of the crafting table. stick, iron, stick. So in total you need 2 iron and 4 sticks.You can still keep a block hill it would just slide over the corners. Plus you could also add poles for faster skiing on flat land if you hold the space bar like a horse, when the bar is at its prime, you push off going faster. and you can walk on the snow with them. Skiing has been around for a very long time, and i think it would be very cool to add skis to minecraft.

    Skis would definetly be a good way of transportation. And also they could lose durability 4x faster on blocks like stone.

    Il me semble que dans les fichiers du jeu dans une certaine version la texture du ski est présente...mais on ne trouve pas de ski dans le jeu :/

    I've created a post to expand on this idea a bit more but it got rejected so I'm leaving my feedback here:

    Skiing used to be an important mode of transport in mountaineous regions of the world because it allows for speedy traversal of hills and mountain ranges both vertically and horizontally. Therefore it would be a useful and fun addition to the Caves & Cliffs update, which is going to introduce more verticality to the Minecraft world.

    Skiers

    • Crafting recipe: 1x boot + 2x wooden slabs (-B-,W-W,---)
    • Used to traverse powdered snow without sinking in (creates particle effects)
    • Slide down/over blocks (fastest on ice blocks; fast on snow, snow-covered or carpet-covered blocks)
    • Slide uphill if there's enough momentum (could allow for ski jumping)
    • Increase speed continously by crouching while going downhill
    • Decrease speed by changing direction (more difficult with higher speed)
    • Can be combined with a minecart to create a sled (e.g. for transporting goods)
    • Right-click with shovel on snow to create skiing track (similar to paved grass) that's faster to traverse with skiers

    Ski poles (optional for more control and for allowing cross-country skiing)

    • Crafting recipe: 4x wooden sticks (W-W,W-W,---)
    • Slide faster horizontally and uphill without any momentum, even on non-snow blocks
    • Allows for tighter turns while sliding downhill
    • Slide faster on paved grass blocks, which act as a skiing track

    I want to create a ski resort with the new mountains and I think it would be awesome to be able to go on my runs I'll create.

    Minecraft actually used to have ski textures but it was only as a troll, although as they are making an update for mountains it would be pretty nice to be able to have a faster way of transportation through them, i imagine the skis controling a bit like a mix between elytras and boats, as it would accelerate with momentum when going down a snow block and you would use A and D to turn it.

    maybe they will add a new animal that if you feed it you could mount on it for a few time and ski at the new mountains

    Skis were actually an unused texture in the game a LONG time ago, but only added in as a joke.
    Considering the SIZE of these mountains in the Experimental Snapshot, they're gonna be annoying to go down!
