Is there a way to tweak the portal generation code to be more accurate at finding an already existing portal in the overworld when coming back from the nether? It seems to happen many times where the original portal was not far, nor was it obstructed or broken and a new portal is created for no apparent reason. I am wondering if maybe it is time for a slight update to the nether portal generating / linking rules so that returning from the nether to the overworld is more fluid and fun.
If a portal in the overworld was close enough to generate a portal in the nether in the location that it did in the first place then it should be close enough when returning to use the same portal to exit back in the overworld (unless it is broken, blocked or otherwise obstructed). Maybe Nether portals could use an extra bit of information transferred and saved in the portal coding that remembers which portal and where it originated in the first place to return to that portal unless one of the other rules is broken?
Just an idea :)
