Better Stairs Recipe

The current recipe for crafting any type of stairs is totally nonsensical.   You should be able to put three blocks in the crafting table in an L-shape and get four stairs back.

Here's why:

Firstly, the shape of the stairs on the crafting table doesn't look the same as the shape of the block.  Minecraft stairs are L shaped, and the crafting recipe for stairs is not so.  

Also, you don't get the amount of stairs from crafting that would be realistic.  The ratio of blocks put into the crafting table to stair blocks obtained should be 3:4.  The current ratio is 6:4.

Here is my reasoning:  Every stair block is 3/4 the size of a normal block.  That means that after making one stair block out of one full block, you'd have a fourth of a block left over.  Then, if you were to make three blocks into stairs, you'd have three fourth's of a block left over, which you could combine into another stair.

However, there is one more thing that needs to be taken into account:  the stonecutter.  This block currently allows you to get a 1:1 trade for stone stairs only, which is good, but not as good as I am advocating for.  Since the stonecutter only works for some blocks, I would suggest that it does not change, meaning the crafting table will actually be slightly more efficient than the stonecutter.  This may sound odd, but the stonecutter still has the benefit of being able to craft the exact number of blocks you want, so it is alright.

    Yeah it’s quite annyoing especially if you like to build houses in survivals.

    This is what we need! It makes complete sense, it would be so easy to implement, and as a survival builder, this would make my process so much more efficient!

    Agreed! Stairs have always felt very costly to make relative to slabs and full blocks.

    I have thought the same thing forever now. The stair recipe currently gives fewer stairs than blocks you put in which is actually pretty crazy. That means for 4 blocks you lose 1/4 of the block, and for two blocks, you lose the entire block. They really should either change the output to 8 stairs for the current recipe or, as you said, change the recipe to 3 blocks and keep the current output, but as of now, making stairs is way too expensive for what they are worth.

    YASS! Every time I craft a set of stairs I feel like I'm getting ripped off. This needs to be seen more. I feel like if everyone saw this everyone would vote on it.

    You would probably lose material, so having it be less than the exact amount makes sense, but I do think that the crafting table recipe should be fairer and give an equal to stone cutters crafting, six stairs, instead of four.

    I like this, but then you would be able to craft them without a crafting table. I think the current recipe should stay, but you would get 8 stairs instead of 4. That way, you would get 6 stairs from the blocks and extra from the ones you "cut off."

    Also @Dr Panda44 has a good point that the recipe should stay so you have to use a crafting table, but it give 8 stairs instead of 4. Which still adds up to the correct volume.

    Also have all the vanilla blocks should be stairs least in Creative mode.
