Scents, a smelly form of combat, potentially useful in adventure maps too.
Crafting Scents: Placing certain items in a furnace (or perhaps the new 1.14 smoker block) with a bottle in the output slot will create a scent.
What?: Scents can be thrown and will linger on a player or mob until they go inside water. Certain scents can attract or discourage mobs.
Why?: Useful for combat, adventure maps and various other things.
Example scents:
Scent of the arthropod: Can be used to attract bats, useful for combat in caves as it will increase the spawn rate of bats too, this could effectively distract your opponent as the bats swarm around them. While the scent will linger, the bats won’t, after a while they will fly away, but once new bats spawn in they will be attracted to you.
Scent of the sea: Can be used to attract cats or polar bears, while cats will just follow you or the mob (potentially annoying for a creeper), polar bears will charge at whatever has that scent, this can be used for crowd control as the polar bear could deal large amounts of knockback or will distract them when they are hostile towards you.
Scent of the dead: Scares away villagers but makes undead mobs passive towards you or the affected mob until attacked of course.
Scent of attraction: Makes passive mobs follow you or the affected mob and hostile mobs flee.
