New Combat Weapon: The Katana

Minecraft should have more weapons and each weapon should have their own unique capabilities. For me, I think that the Katana would be a good addition and here are the stats describing why.

Katana

Damage (each tier is .5 damage point weaker than their sword counterpart in the combat snapshots)

  • Wood - 3.5 damage points
  • Stone - 3.5 damage points
  • Gold - 3.5 damage points
  • Iron - 4.5 damage points
  • Diamond - 5.5 damage points
  • Netherite - 6.5 damage points

Attack Speed

  • Faster(but not too fast) than a sword
  • Speed remains the same regardless of the weapon's tier

Recipe: The recipe is the normal sword recipe but in a diagonal line

Unique Ability

  • Katana critical hits are more powerful than the standard critical hit damage

 

Just like in real life, katanas are made to be fast and deadly weapons but if they're faster and stronger than a sword in Minecraft, then that would defeat the purpose of anyone using a normal sword in PVP and PVE. According to Mojang, they don't want to add features that remove entire gameplay, and I don't want the katana to be one of those features. That's why its base damage is weaker, but deals more damage upon a critical attack, keeping the fast and deadly vibe to it. It also opens up more strategy to combat, making you decide if you want a sturdy sword that has more attack power or a fast katana than has powerful critical hits.

    This sounds like a great idea! however it seems too OP, maybe make it harder to acquire.

    They are like that because they are actually .5 damage points lower in the experimental combat snapshots. Tried to plan ahead :).

    As a Japanese, I don't think a normal sword is less damaging than a Japanese sword, but the more you use an actual Japanese sword, the harder it is to cut. How about a specification that maximizes power by adding a system called sharpness and performing sharpness and recovery with a Grindstone or Anvil? As a differentiator, ordinary swords do not need to be sharpened.

    Great post! Minecraft needs more Asian representation and a Katana would be a great way of doing so.
