In the latest snapshot release of Minecraft, we were treated to a new type of villagers: masons, that don’t have any use other than adding to the body count. In order to rectify that, I am proposing that the mason should use his talents not for trading, but for defense by creating stone golems.
Stone golems are basically knockoff iron golems. In order to build one, you have place replace the bottom, left, and right blocks of the cross that forms iron golems with smooth stone. This way, the stone golem is easy to build, but not overly easy. If you don’t want to build the stone golem, there is one more way to summon one: get a mason to build it. In this method, the player trades the supplies to build the golem over to a mason for a couple of emeralds. Once the mason has the necessary materials, a stone golem will be spawned in the village. This trading method creates not only a way for villages to be somewhat protected, but also creates an economic dependence between player and villagers.
The golem itself is a cumbersome fellow due to it being a diluted version of the iron golem. As opposed to the smooth, strong iron golem, the stone golem is rough and weak. It has a maximum health of 30 full hearts, only deals half as much damage as an iron golem, moves .1 meters per second slower than iron golems, has a detection distance that is 10% less than iron golems, and offers villagers flint instead of poppies. Other than those differences though, the stone golem behaves like the iron golem. Overall, this golem is better as a disposable fighter, not a full-time sentry, but it works well in a pinch.
Upon death, the stone golem drops usually drops 1-3 cobblestone. Rarely, it will drop 1 piece of flint upon death.
