Wet Sand/Floating Sand

If you get sand wet, either in a cauldron or on an anvil, you could build floating sand parts of structures, or whole structures, and when the sand dried out after a set or random amount of game ticks, it would become the volatile sand you come across in natural generation, ready to fall at the first block block placed on it. This would be akin to building sand castles in real life. Wet sand would be a new block in the creative inventory, and craftable in survival per above.

    wet when near water of any kind to prevent sand from falling on you when you dig underneath an ocean or lake.

    would be great for timing mechanisms with redstone. Dries faster when exposed to sunlight, slower when darker.

    funnily enough this is the exact same idea that i came up with, i guess there are other people in the world who are just like you. i had the idea of making the crafting recipe 8 blocks of sand with a water bucket in the middle, you would get the bucket back like in cake and it would give you 8 wet sand,
