We can all agree that the new combat has split the community and even made servers comparable with 1.8 just to remove the new combat. However, I have a fix for the new combat that doesn't punish players for not fighting a certain way while rewarding players that fight with a certain style. The solution is to replace the weapon cooldown with a charge strike build-up system. Basically, Holding the attack button will charge the hit at the cost of a small amount of movement speed. A fully charged strike will allow your weapon to do a little bit extra damage or makes the weapon pretend that the enchantments are an extra level higher for that strike. This whole idea accomplishes what the 1.9 combat was trying to achieve while eliminating the problems that it brought with it. Basically, there is nothing stopping you from spamming your weapon to get in some damage, but if you want to be more efficient with your hits, you have to charge it first..
