We already have protection enchantments for almost everything (attacks, fire, explosions, projectiles, fall damage), but not for magic damage. Currently there are just a few mobs which deal this kind of damage (Guardians, Elder Guardians, the Ender Dragon), but if Mojang implemented the enchantments, they could design new mobs, maybe also a mini-boss, which would require you to prepare properly.
This would be useful because it would allow Mojang to add more difficulty to the game, but also a way to deal with it.
It could make the Ender Dragon fight easier, and this is not good, thus I have some ideas to balance it:
-It wouldn't be available in the enchanting table
-It would be available only in Ender Cities loots or by fishing.
Considering that you'd have to enchant a full armor set, I think this is enough.
Someone may say that there would be too many protection enchantments, well, what about then making fire protection and blast protection into a single enchantment? Blast protection is used just in Wither Boss fights, this would also make the new enchantments resulting by the two more interesting.
