If mending and infinity were compatible, there would be no need to get more arrows.  Just enchant the bow with Unbreaking III.

I agree with this idea, and here's why:

With the new tridents, you can have Loyalty and Mending on the same object, which, if thought through, is very similar to Infinity and Mending. You have no limit to how many times you throw the Trident. Even with the new Crossbows, some were dissapointed it couldn't get any of the Bows enchantments, including Infinity. However, it does have its own version: Piercing. Piercing allows the arrow to travel through several mobs (up to 4 with Piercing 4) and still hit the ground, able to be picked back up, essentially making for unlimited arrows, unless you happen to shoot in the direction of 5 lined-up creepers for no prticular reason or just have a mob farm.

It is fine to buff or nervous things, just don't do it so you don't ruin the overall gameplay. If you want to bend the game to fit tournament rules there should be a gamemode called tournament where all the competition addicts can stop complaining when something isn't removed from the game, just remove it from the gamemode

this would make bows way too op. just make a skeleton spawner. i've found 3 in my world less than 500 blocks away from spawn and i literally could not use all the arrows it makes if i stood there shooting them as it makes them.

I agree! We cannot get to repair our bows when we got a lot of enchants to it including infinity. So if you guys say that there will be no point of gathering arrows once we get both of them, then in this case there will be no point of getting infinity if you can't even repair them... so please add this back. Though this can be a great challenge to the game I accept that, but please let us fix our bows because at some point, Unbreaking III isn't enough. Thankyou.

I feel this should be added as the max of 6 tinkers with an anvil are a thing so at one point you cant repair it anymore. I'd recommend to have an ender chest or shulker box full of arrows and have a mending bow rather than infinity and not mending.

This was allowed until after fireworks were added as a method of elytra propulsion, as a replacement to infinity+mending bows being the previous method of infinite propulsion in 1.11.3 (?). I think the removal is silly mostly because both were viable and balanced options, where you would have to farm and get quite a bit of gunpowder in order to make an adequate supply of fireworks, which would ultimately be the best option late-stage when you have a lot of resources, whereas infinity+mending bows were mid-game stage and free, but also lacked the safety and flexibility that firework rockets provide, with you having to shoot yourself to propel yourself (thus forcing the player to pay very close attention to their healthbar), and the propulsion technique being very linear and not allowing for sharp and quick turns like firework rockets provide.

With all of the other overpowered items that can be made with the amazing enchantment that is mending, I seriously cannot fathom why Mojang has a problem with infinity/mending bows. Please add them back! We loved them.

Guys, try fishing with Lure III rod. I caught several bows with mending and infinity on them. Power and mending too. In few days, fishing ones in a while in the night I cought like 5 enchanted bows + rods + enchanted books with all kinds of enchantments...

That's too OP. I think Infinity should be nerfed all together and work like Unbreaking, but for arrows. It should also work for crossbows. It should be mutually exclusive with Loyalty.

Mojang allowed all the different types of protection to be added together but still doesnt allow mending and infinity on a bow. Mojang, please allow us to do this

this shouldnt be possible since that gives you unlimited uses on your bow which in my opinion is too op.

I keep two bows on me 1 with infinity and 1 with mending and put enchantments on both so when your almost out of arrows switch to the infinity one

Making it possible for infinity and mending to be on the same bow can make it so that you dont need to carry as many arrows as you would need without it and not worrying about it breaking since it has mending

Mojang thinks that Mending and Infinite is OP however they did not think of our reaction... A simple solution to please both Mojang and Players is simple have a limit on how many enchants you can have on your bow! let Infinite and Mending be accessible however the price should be to have a limit on how many enchants you can have on a bow!

Bows already break fast even when mine has unbreaking III. And it costs 33 levels to repair it. This would make this process more simple and less painful.

Personally, I don't think overpowered stuff is fun. It takes away the enjoyment of using my brain to make decisions and trade-offs. Balanced game mechanics are way more rewarding, and mending+infinity on the most powerful offensive weapon would be grossly overpowered and not fun at all.

Besides, infinity only really matters early game. By mid-game, you should be able to easily get stacks of arrows any time you need (chicken farm and Fortune III shovel).

Prior to Minecraft 1.11.1, bows may be enchanted with both mending and infinity without any problem. Yes, those two enchantments together is very over powerful, however, possibly a bit much. Having mending and infinity is similar to shooting a bow in creative mode, it is that over powered. I wouldn’t mind if they were compatible again, I would enjoy it like all orders, or if they stay mutually exclusive. As of right now, I recommend enchanting your bow with mending rather than infinity as you will never lose it due to too many uses of the anvil, and collecting arrows may be found easy just by the use of a looting 3 sword on skeletons, especially in skeleton dungeons, I have done this many times and I gain more arrows than I lose. Either way, I believe both sides of this have their pros and cons.

I agree with the people who wish for the infinity + mending enchantment to come back. Mojang, you probably knew that everyone was happy with the ability to have both enchantments on a bow, but if you guys just remove it like that, what are we supposed to do...

In all essence, the mutual exclusivity shouldn't really be a thing, as it would be affecting a lot of players in their game play and also, would really piss them off.

Pardon my grammar if I have any grammar mistakes, and again, I would really like you to break the barrier. Thank you for hearing me out.

I agree with this. Reason being is people can make this possible anyway by using command blocks and messing with the files to make data packs or mods, so why not just add it to the game instead of allowing users to take a risk to get a data pack or mod from a sketchy website that could get them a virus on their computer. (This is from personal experience with neighbor.) A way to balance this out is have up to 10 extra uses for arrows (Infinity 5 (or 2 with Infinity 1)). A side note is that with Mending it already uses EXP to repair but the same amount every time so if Mending+Infinity is still a no make a new block like a grindstone but allow another of the same item (not just the same materials) to be combined to fix the weapon/tool/armor with EXP but the amount varies on the enchantments. So if the bow has had a enchantment with Power 3 and Unbreaking 3 and then a book was added to put Infinity on it, the EXP to repair it with another bow would be (just a random but a balanced seeming number) 72% of the EXP required to change the name of the bow (so 28% off).

I don't know about anyone else but this seems balanced to me.

Anyone that is honest with themselves should acknowledge that infinity is completely overpowered in survival.

Once you get an infinity bow, combat really becomes a joke and nothing is really scary anymore.

In create mode there is no reason to not allow mending and infinity on the same bow, but in survival infinity should be as hard to get as the elytra. Add some boss to the woodland mansion (or a new boss)that drops infinity bows or something (after all they are magic spooky guys) (At this point you should allow mending on the enchantment, as well as allowing tipped arrows to work)

To address the main concerns of making infinity harder to get...

"But arrows are annoying in my inventory"

Add a leather chest piece called "quiver", make it work like a shulk chest that can only hold arrows and must be equipped on chest piece to be able use arrows.

"But arrows are too annoying to make"

I agree, there is no reason that we shouldn't be able to make arrows out of everything that we can make weapons out of(rather than flint). There should be wood arrows, stone arrows, iron arrows, gold arrows, and even diamond arrows. Chickens should drop more feathers as well.

This should have been done a long time ago

I think the trade-off makes sense especially considering how powerful bows can get.

I have a bow with infinity, flame, power 3, and unbreaking 3 which is now about to break because I cannot repair it anymore. I spent lots of levels making this bow and now it’s about to break because I couldn’t apply mending. So sad.

Agreed. They should've just nerfed the power and/or punch enchantments instead.
