It would be a great step to expand the Minecraft universe.

It would be a great idea. I imagine it being a post game thing and maybe there could be a magic meter you unlock after beating the ender dragon. It could use resources or xp

But why use rituals? A new way to fight shouldn't be something that only hardcore players have to achieve.

Magic always involves elements. So if we want magic in this game. Mobs should have elemental resistent and damage, otherwise magic can not work at all.

And if mobs would have elemental damage. There have to be new weapon enchantments that involves elemental dmg.

So putting magic in this game is a whole thing. A feature that will put some big changes into the game.

A magic update is a good idea
    Could add elemental magic wands
    * Magic sticks: made with a stick and a magic stone
    * Magic stone: obtained from mining caves, they are obtained in the same way as other ores
    -Have elementary magical properties
    -Has different magic elements
-Have different colors depending on the element such as ice, fire, wind, earth etc.
    -Magic buttons have equal durability
A magic update would take the game to another level
Certainly a big topic to be discussed in the future

Other magic items should also be thought for a magic upgrade already we have enchanted books so why not use grimorio or magical books

I was going to suggest this myself, I figured it must have been suggested before but it's not on the "previously considered" list so I had a few ideas for it.

One would be an item system that makes use of the enchantment table, albeit a bit differently. For example, a wand that can be charged using XP in order to cast offensive spells, or perhaps a single-use piece of paper similar to the spell scrolls from ES. Or maybe papers/other items, trinkets etc. could be used for utility spells.

The other idea was a magic system entirely different from but somewhat similar to the enchanting table, being able to "learn" a spell for a limited number of casts. Either way I would expect offensive spellcasting to be a limited-use thing reliant on exp.

I hadn't thought of it but I really like the idea of using some form of ritual as suggested earlier. For example, creating some sort of sigil on the ground and burning(?) it or something in order to charge a wand/staff or regain casting ability, etc. Maybe in addition to using exp at a table of sorts?

Edit: Another idea, if implemented, maybe the damage or usefulness of spells could be inversely proportional to the quality of armor equipped? Just a thought.

They do have a lot of NPCs that use magic, and I think the players should be able to as well. Maybe it could even be spell tomes instead of a ritual.

I like the idea but don't forget about what actually happens when you hit a creeper with lightning...

I also thought about that also because evokers can do magic that we cant do it would be cool if we could do the same :)

I feel like, instead of runes, you'd have a mana meter or something similar, and would have to research the magic or unlock them through achievements. It makes sense, since they already have enchanting. There could also be village mages, that can sell you scrolls. (A way to instantly get a spell.)

I’ve been wanting a magic update for so long too. We know evokers can use spells like summoning vexs and the crocodile snap type things. We also know players can tap into the power of potions and enchanting. Souls are also used in Minecraft dungeons as magical energy. Imagine what sort of stories players could create if these mechanics were expanded on in the base game. Survival builders could make so many different designs for building around different systems.
What if lapis combine with soul sand and perhaps the potion ingredient could create throw able projectiles. Not necessarily potion effects, but what if soul sand + plus lapis + a fire charge or blaze powder gave you a flaming projectile the player can actually throw. Maybe a splash potion of healing plus some other ingredient could make a throw able instant health projectile with a farther throwing range.
I know some of these ideas may sound a little bit modded, but as long as it sticks with in the one action/one block at a time model, I don’t think it could be too busted or difficult for other players to follow what you’re doing.
Maybe there could also be more mobs with different magic resistances or sensitivities like we do now with witches and the undead.

Doesn't sound like Minecraft, in my opinion

I do believe Minecraft could benefit from a more mystical update. But I think it could be overdone, if we were to add too much it would almost demean the rest of the game. I do believe that if we were to update this there would have to be a limit to where we stay in the realm of Minecraft and going into making a completely different game than what the core of this game is. But also going to Little with an update like this could make the game feel less customizable. Finding the right balance between those would be desirable. This would make the game more so whimsical
