Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

The addition of lances/spears would be awesome! I would love for there to be some standard wood/stone/gold/iron/diamond lances, as an alternative to the expensive Trident. The crafting recipe could be like a diagonal shovel, and, as spears/lances have been throughout history, cheap. The increased attack range, balanced with the inability to throw them, is also a good idea.

And, if these were implemented, I would love for there to be an actual stabbing animation.

Tirado The Red, Spears and Lances should be different weopons all together as well as the Long Sword (for details see my post on Combat). I imagine the Lance being thrust forward using the throw button like the trident but it never leaves your hand. It could also hit mobs from 6 blocks away? Maybe it's range would be increased by an Enchantment.

I really like your idea and I think something even cooler would be to attach a banner to your spear

Maybe hitting would be a better word than poking.😂

It would be nice if the spear did similar damage to the sword area with the difference that the spear does linear damage and not sideways.

I propose some characteristics of the spear with its enchantments.

The spear was originally a melee weapon that attacked a single target at a time but with more range than the sword and with an animation similar to playing billiards.

    enchantments:

-agility: allows you to grab the spear with one hand
-penetration: allows to do area damage linearly
-Lightness: allows to launch the spear, it can only be picked up by the one who throws it doing damage per second and not damage per hit, this enchantment is incompatible with penetration
-center: When using the lance, it provides a small attraction to the tip of the lance to align the targets forward

    elaboration:
a stick, a fire stick and a mineral

When mounted and sprinting, lanced should knock mounted enemies off their mounts. They should also do massive damage, really bringing cavalry into the game!

I am posting something similar (titled mounted combat and jousting)

I was going to post my own but I suppose I'll tack my specific idea on here.
    - Slightly more range than trident but sword enchantments (Smite, Sharpness) can apply
    - Not quite as much damage as a sword but much more useful on horseback especially
    - For the sake of balance and realism, could make unwieldy/slow on ground or even only functional on horseback
    - Throw mechanic from trident would be cool Ghosts'n Goblins style

Basically I noticed swords being awkward to use on horseback, and while tridents work better there is only a damage boost in rain (or I assume for those lucky enough, underwater on skeleton horse). The Lance would be a perfect middle ground designed with horseback combat in mind.
    - Might have a longer "cooldown" to encourage the once per charge attack you see in medieval jousting

It'd be interesting if the lance had speed based damage, the faster you go the harder it hits. Cavalry would be a viable option, and elytra users could have a high risk/ high reward weapon. And aerial dogfights would be much more interesting!

You know now that were getting camels added to Minecraft this would be A great weapon for the charge attack that camels can provide for exceptional charge damage.

I think the lance should work as a weapon that you don't need to click to use. The speed of the lance moving past would make the damage. This means a player can move fast on a horse and skim past the enemy without having to click the enemy at the exact time. I thought three iron in a row would do it.

With the recent release of the mace, I think it should work similarly. The higher speed in a pure horizontal path you move the more damage it does, also it should have the ability to bust shields like axes. To make it more challenging but more rewarding in terms of damage it could deal more when you time your attack with the lance the further to the edge of range the mob or player is. Since you have to move at high speeds for damage as well it makes the timing especially difficult, which means the output should be devastating in my mind.

This could be a good way to make sprint attacking viable. If damage from the mace increases with fall time, then lance damage could increase with sprint/glide/horseback riding time.

While I like your idea, I have a different idea for the lance!

In my vision, the lance would be a craftable item made from 1 stick, and 4 iron in a triangular pattern. It has further reach and can push enemies further away, making the bow optimal against it. While it doesn’t deal as much damage as an iron sword, it has the useful role of dismounting enemies, which is great for minigames, roleplay, preventing players from escaping fights, and dismounting skeleton jockeys to save the skeleton horses.
