Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Dead vines

Dead vines have the same appearance as vines, except being brown.  They are made by cooking vines in a furnace (other creation options are welcome).  They can be placed under dead vines that are supported, to reproduce the hanging vines that can occur from natural growth.  They would mainly be decorative, but would also be useful for any situation where the properties of vines would be useful, but you don't want them to grow.

Vines can be very useful as ladders without collision boxes and because they don't require a block behind them for their full length.  However, they can be a pain to work with because they need to be contained.  Dead vines would allow you to use the benefits of vines without worrying about them growing out of control.

They would also add amazing atmosphere in the right kind of build.

    genius! that would solve so many problems. also, how about placing vines in the nether to slowly dry them, as an alternative to cooking them in a furnace. so the player can choose between fast but expensive, or cheap but risky.

    I love the idea of them turning into dead vines in the nether.  It might even allow the farming of them if it happens slowly, since you could place living vines, allow them to grow, and have them randomly die.

    my original idea was for it to dry up in desserts, but i know that some people like to add a bit of life in dessert builds.
