G’day, this is an idea I thought would be great in MC ;D The one thing would be that the rope has to be connected to something or else it would break. Floating ropes don’t make sense ;)

This is cool and all but I don’t see why it is more useful than ladders. You are more than likely going to have a wall to put your ladder in your shaft.

You should separate out your ropes and mineshafts suggestions into two.  They're different things.  One is even an item suggestion and the other a structures suggestion.

I like the idea of a kind of ladder that doesn't need a backing.  It would be useful for caving where you have a ledge that you want to get up to, but there aren't any walls you can place a ladder on.  It would make it less useful, but it would also make sense if you had to have the floating ropes attached to something above them, rather than allowing you to build up from the bottom.  They're ropes, so it makes sense that they would be able to dangle from above, but not support themselves.  So they would have a mechanic like vines where they break if they aren't attached to a block or supported from above.

It might also make sense for these to be in the form of a rope ladder, rather than a single rope strand.  We don't seem to be very adept at climbing, after all.

It should have to be connected to a block above it, or another rope.  I like the idea though.

I definitely like the rope ladder idea, and agree it should be like vines, requiring that it be attached at the top, but floating otherwise would be a very nice addition. I don't know about the interaction mechanics, though, between being able to walk through it versus climb up it. Probably still act solid, and not be able to walk through like you can with string.

Here is an in-depth suggestion on Reddit that can link with this one. It may help the devs consider the feature.

    Hey William360XBOX -

Not everyone can access reddit (it may be blocked for some of our audience), could you also add a little summary of what this idea is instead of just a link?

    Thanks a bunch.

You should be able to dispense ropes up to a stack and then pull it back up when you activate the dispenser again.

Now we have cross bows you should be able to attache a rope to a arrow and shoot across gaps. And use a lead to glide across. You should be able to attache a rope to a normal fence as an anchor.

What is we put a the rope+arrow item in a dispencer. It would shoot out, then grapple any mob or player in it's path and pull that mob to the dispencer.

how about rope fences. A fence that the player can climb over but live stock can't. Made with the fence recipe but instead of sticks, rope. Rope fences would be great for parkour.

Although I think this idea is a very useful one, I think it should be another property of a lead. Ladders take up space on the walls and be broken way too easily. With ropes, they wouldn't be broken. I dunno if anything I'm saying makes since, but thank you for my time. You have my vote.

would the rope be like vines? because you can climb them even if they aren't on a wall

I propose to add to Minecraft sush a simple, but wonderful and useful thing as a rope. The rope can be used as a decorative element, craft material for new instrument(?) and fortifications for scaffolding, allowing you to put them up to 7 blocks without support. (+3 blocks) The rope can be placed like scaffollding, but only from top to bottom. On the ropes you can climb and descend as if on ladder. You can make a rope ladder from a rope and bamboo, with can be placed in the same way as a rope. The dispenser will throw out the rope ladder when the redstone signal is activated and collect it if the redstone signal is absent.

    Thanks, Google translate...

Or you can call it a grappling hook, but its just a rope, kinda like in The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker.

I like this idea, my idea for this, is that it would need to be connected to a ceiling block or to a wall, and you could have it be vertical or horizontal.

I think you should be able to walk through it, and you'd climb it by holding jump.

Also maybe they could be dyeable? I saw someone suggest that and I kinda like the idea.

I think they'd be around the size of a fence post, maybe a bit smaller.

Oh! And maybe they could be crafted in a rope ladder, that drops down a few blocks when placed on the side of a block, although that suggestion might be a bit of a stretch.

This could replace water elevators: same function but realistic!

Made with string and vines, too!
