    I can see where this would be a fun idea from a realism point of view (if you let your grass grow for too long, it'll get too tall, like in real life).

    However, you've given no real reason that this should be added, so I don't see how this is worth the time to code it in or the extra processing power. Also, what about builders who want to use grass blocks in their builds without any tall grass? This would just end up being an annoyance to them.

    The issue is it would be really annoying if you didn't want grass to grow.  It's better to let you grow the grass manually if you want it than to have to constantly get rid of grass you don't want.

    Maybe it doesn't respawn if you use shears to cut it

    personally i feel like this might be a bit obnoxious, i'm not a fan of mowing the lawn in real life and im not gonna be a fan of it in game. however, i wouldnt mind it being added as a gamerule that can be toggled on and off.

    That would be cool. I would like for the envirovent to grow back besides grass because i own an anarchy server in minecraft and i wish the remaining grass blocks near spawn would grow.

    This is a very valuable idea. Especially, for cows/pigs/sheep "mov" the grass, they should start experiencing hunger and die from it if they can not find and consume one grass per day. This would also destroy these nasty 10*10 size animal-cruelty encouraging prisons for the animals people tend to call "farms". People would be forced to give animals room.

    I was thinking about a hunger sysem for animals too. It is important that animals are able to survive without the player so there wouldn't be any manual feeding needed or so. I'd like to add also perhaps letting animals breed if they have enough food and letting them eat grass from grass blocks and wheat too. Maybe animals would only eat low-quality food such as grass blocks when they are really hungry, while they will always eat wheat. Maybe it would even take wheat to make them breed.

    Captain has a good and reasonable idea.

    Firstly, yes he does have a reason: natural realism. Minecraft may not be the most realistic in many ways, but when it is it makes it more immersive and engaging.

     

    Secondly, the solution to the issue of builders who don't want grass on their worlds could simply be customizeable options. The more options the better, in my opinion, so why not have a "realistic plant/flora/grass growth" option to tick?

    Make it grow back from rain, would be perfect since it doesnt rain much.

    Absolutely not.

    I don't wanna have all my work of removing grass around my base cancelled due to it growing back in a couple minutes. Not to mention the whole world would just be nothing but grass everywhere. Although there could be a set of rules implemented, such as a certain amount of space inbetween the grass for it to be able to grow back, so you wouldn't have the grass growing on every single block. But still don't think it's a good idea.

    If you want the grass back, do what MacchuPicchu96 said.

    I agree, the environment often looks so empty after getting enough wheat seeds. It is possible to get it back using bonemeal but that makes it quite a bit of an effort, while grass should actually be growing back on its own,(it has no extra value other than seeds and decoration so I suppose it wouldn't give any balancing issues). I think it would be a good way to implement it by giving grass multiple stages, like short grass, normal grass, and double tall grass. overtime, the grass will grow one stage bigger. When breaking the grass it should go down one stage(or cut down entirely with shears). but the first stage cant be removed without using something like a shovel. Only first stage grass will grow back, but not normal grass/dirt blocks. This way you can keep your environment clean if you want to. Now that I think of it... It would be cool if the seeds you get are actually grass seeds so you can replant and grow the grass anywhere you like. Then there would get a grass seed for every stage you break, and an additional chance to get special wheat seeds.

    Would be too annoying. Imagine accidentally forgetting to close the game over night and coming back to see every single grass block in you render distance with tall grass sticking out of the top of it.

    It would be a pain when trying to keep areas grass-free for farms and such. The automatic tree farm would be completely broken because grass would grow where the AFK player is supposed to place the sapling.

    This is a great idea. It would be nice to do with with flowers in flower biomes too. also another addition to this idea is that if you dont recut the grass then it grows to a tall grass. and if the grass block and grass on top is under a roof for, lets say 10 mc days then it turns dead then eventually dies and turns to dirt
