Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Cactus, based on the Prickly Pear

This is a prickly pear cactus: (link)  The desert is in desperate need of more interest, and a new cactus is the best kind of new plant to add.

It grows in a very segmented fashion, and so would be an interesting one to adapt to Minecraft's style.  It also grows fruit (the reddish parts in the picture), so would make for an interesting new desert food source.  The cactus itself is also edible, once you take off the spines. (link)  Maybe if you use a sword to harvest a prickly pear cactus you get a de-spined version that you can eat, but can't be planted to grow into a new plant.

I imagine it could grow similar to the chorus plant, with branching segments that all have a similar appearance, with the final piece growing one or more fruits. Each piece of the prickly pear can be planted in sand and grow a new plant.

    You should be able to make a drink with this. I live where prickly pears grow and there's a slushy drink flavored prickly pear.

    Having regular cactus only heal camels, while the prickly pear breeds them, would be so convenient and prevent any accidental camel reproduction.

    Maybe desert farmers could also harvest this type of cactus, and sell their de-spined variant?

    Adding the prickly pear cactus would also be a perfect time to add cactus leather since it can be made from this type of cactus. It would be nice to have another way to get leather

    • You knew your cactus can make leather. For me it's not the same thing that I wanted to do: take a shear to remove the fruit from the prickly pear so go to the craft because I make peeled prickly pear fruit that doesn't have a spike. With this you could make prickly pear soup but how to do it you need a bowl, peeled prickly pear, dry racket that I will talk about later and it has 3 ingredients that you don't have to choose 1 ingredient to add chicken, carrot or potato. how to have rackets when you had removed the fruit you can still click even if it has no fruit because this will give prickly rackets that you could make prickly racket powder then also cook in the sun or in the oven will make dry snowshoes. how to make cactus leather you have to take two dry rackets in order to build cactus leather that you can put dye on, block of cactus leather, cactus leather armor, horse armor, wolf armor either other things. The prickly pears could grow red, orange, yellow flowers, finally there could be prickly pears with fruit and flowers.

    There should be a water meter that depletes over time. The prickly pear could provide water in the desert in desperate times. In the desert the water meter depletes more over time.

    "I highly recommend adding Prickly Pear fruits to the Opuntia. It would be a great new food source for the Desert biome, similar to how Sweet Berries work. Players could harvest them carefully to avoid damage from the thorns!

    I recommend making the fruits edible and adding seeds inside. This way, players can plant the seeds to grow new cacti instead of just breaking and placing the plant. It would make desert farming much more realistic!
