I have a chromebook. Acer Model:cb5-571-c1dz
Today (Dec17,2018). As of the new update of bedrock (minecraft android) to v1.8 my chromebook no longer is compatible. Up until v1.7.1, it worked perfectly fine on it, however because mojang decided that it was no longer compatible for some reason, I am not able to able to update and play on my Realm.
This is ridiculous.I have an HP Chromebook X2 running Chrome OS Version 71.0.3578.94 (Official Build) (64-bit) which the Play Store says is incompatible with Minecraft Bedrock. It seems inconceivable that this hardware should have any issue running the software when my my phone has no issue with it. Please unblock the Chromebook to allow me to play. Thanks!
I fully support this but mouse functionality would need improvement as the mouse can only be used to navigate the menu, its confusing to have keyboard support but no mouse support in android and potentially considered a bug
Most newer Chrome OS devices have Android app capability, so Minecraft for Chromebook can probably be released on the Play Store, or just make some tweaks to the Minecraft already on the Play Store so it's usable on Chrome OS.
Some of my friends do own a Chromebook, and they are affordable computers, and it would be great if they could join the Minecraft community.
With Google Stadia, they could use Chrome OS and that would mean the possibility of Minecraft in Google Stadia. (Good thing is that it supports cross-platform so you can play with your friends in other devices.)
When I first got my Chromebook (Google Pixelbook) I was excited to get Minecraft PE on it ─ sure enough due to the fact that my Chromebook has Android support, it worked and I could get the latest Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
It was great, I could play with friends to build new worlds when I'm away from home where I play Minecraft on my old Windows computer (Surface Pro 4)!
Now I can't due to the fact that Minecraft has been deprecated for Chromebooks on Google Play, which is annoying. I don't see why Mojang disabled it and removed support for Chromebooks! So basically all I have is an older edition (not too old, like 0.0.3 version numbers away but it still doesn't work multiplayer). I can't update at all.
So at the moment, my friends and I just have to do other stuff other than Minecraft. And to be honest, it's the only game I have on my Chromebook. I payed the Google Play price specifically just so I could download it on my Chromebook, but now it's non-updatable, it's just not worth it anymore.
So Mojang, if you're reading this ─ please just toggle on support for Chromebooks in the Google Play Console. Trust me ─ it works! And you'll get many more purchases and downloads from the community if you do!
Thanks. That's all I'm asking for. Just for you to switch one simple toggle on.
Chromebooks are now receiving the Android Pie backend as part of Chrome OS 72. This update adds mouse tracking to android systems, so I think now would be a good time to introduce Minecraft to Chromebooks... Just a suggestion Mojang! :)
Since it took me ages to figure this out without requiring shady sites, I will post it here how to play Minecraft on your Chromebook:
- First buy minecraft on the google Play Store
- Install it on an android phone were it still works
- Backup your app as an APK file (choose your poison: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/75360/is-it-possible-to-backup-apk-from-an-installed-application )
- Enable Android Apps on Chromebook: https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/7021273?hl=en
- Now open the google "Play Store" and log in with the same account you bought minecraft on the app store
- Copy minecraft.apk File to your Chromebook
- Just double-click on the apk file, let it install, then open it! Tada
Ps.: you can sync your worlds via google drive sync between your devices
They need to make this game available to Chromebook. I just got a new laptop and being as its a Acer Chromebook, I can't download my game back again. Its a bit upsetting that you can use all platforms for the most part but yet Chromebooks, being laptops themselves, aren't.
Clearly this is not a technical limitation (since you can side load it, and works amazingly well). This is a political decision between two tech. giants (Microsoft and Google) which hurts competition and consumers.
I just bought a Chromebook and I was sure you could play Minecraft because bedrock has amazing cross compatibility and you can download apps on it. I'm extremely annoyed that I was not able to play minecraft on my new Chromebook which would've worked great.
I think that if you enable Linux and download Minecraft java ubuntu it's great overall but for some reason, my trackpad doesn't work currently on my chrome book I cant turn the mouse because of the curser hits the edge of the screen
