Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Dirt stairs (was: New stair)

The new stair would be dirt and you could make dirt slabs too. I got this idea from my dad. He once said "If only i had dirt steps then i could make a perfect pitchers mount." I would be delighted if you added that even if it doesn't go with the update. It would make dirt not as anoying to have in your house/inventory. Dirt would have a use. Think of how much pealple would want to play minecraft if peaple made sport stadiums. Mojang if you read this, please keep it as a surprise new thing if you decide to add dirt stairs. Not only will i be happy, but so will other peaple at stadium's. You should work on the invisible body thing. P.S. Love the fish in your last update.

    No.  The reason Minecraft is great is because of the low resolution.  Raising Minecraft's resolution by adding more stairs and slabs lowers the value of Minecraft.

    I love this idea, i was going to do it myself. But when I saw this post only had 31 votes, it made me sad that it didn't have more. I WANT IT IN THE GAME. You have my vote

    Craftable dirt slabs and stairs would be interesting, especially if they can become grass or mycelium slabs or stairs in the same conditions that a dirt block can.

    This would be great for map builders and so on as you could make dirt/grass pathways that go up and down on different levels instead of having to switch to wood/stone stairs

    I noticed it's 2yrs in since this was posted, but yes. 100% yes. We need dirt "slabs" and "stairs" even if they had a different name. Stone doesn't make fences. It makes walls. They could be labeled as something like "dirt mound" and "dirt step". Someone commented that MC doesn't need more resolution. It's not an argument of resolution, it's an argument for the general creativity that wouldn't drastically effect anything. Don't like it? Don't use it. Thing is with something like a dirt slab or stair, you could have some lovely Terraforming. I don't necessarily think it should be incorporated in world generation so much, but definitely something manmade. You could change the gradient change of a Prairie to be more gradual. Or have more flowing hills as you approach your base. As you develop the are around your base you could slowly add and change the lands around to flow better. It'd be a nice change instead of having to slam the spacebar the entire time while wondering around your world.

    Dirt stairs are my absolute top thing that I want to be added to the game!! I feel like they would really improve my builds and I don't feel like they're unrealistic in the world of minecraft!

    I think it would be weird to have dirt stair/slabs and don't think it they should put it in the game and instead focus on other features.

    I don't think I would want all the dirt-like blocks to have slabs and stair variants, but I REALLY think that dirt-path blocks should have slab (and possibly stair) variants. These should just be an additional click or two with the shovel when making paths. This would make paths more path-like in terms of smooth movement, which makes so much sense to me. The other blocks, to me, don't really need the added complexity, although I WOULD love moss carpets to stack like snow does. This would make it the warm-weather version of what snow layers can do.

    This would be great for villages and nature themed builds to go smoother and more appealing in creative.
