    i don't like the phantoms.
For me personally it only adds annoyance in the form of ...
    getting a hit, oh it's a phantom, running towards a bed ...
I think that when a player takes actions as to light up the surroundings to prevents mobs
(which takes time and effort) the player should not be punished by some sneaky mob that
thinks "it's far past your bedtime matey".

I hate these things, they mess up my castle aesthetic. I wish you could enable “raids” for them. I very much dislike having to build a dome around my house. Who does minecraft think I am? Sandy from sponge bob? I think not.

I agree to remove them or make away to turn them off and it's hard to have people to sleep when there in mines. its minecraft not a hardcore survival game you want to make people sleep that's what normal mobs are for. keep it but make a off switch so everyone is happy.

I like the idea of Phantoms, but they feel out of place or broken. A simple fix is to just keep them out of the light.

Phantoms are an interesting mob, and I think they should be included. However, they don't follow the rules of Minecraft mobs.

Certain mobs spawn and are immediately hostile. I have some control of whether or not they spawn in my immediate vicinity by controlling the light level. This gives me the ability to prevent them from attacking because they are to far away to be aggro-ed.

This is not true with Phantoms. When they spawn, they are immediately hostile, I have no ability to prevent them from spawning, and when they spawn they are always close enough to be aggro-ed.

I can't tell if this was a deliberate break from the game mechanics or if it was an accident. I suspect it may have been the latter.

Still, I don't want them removed. So, here is my solution:

--Phantoms will not enter an area that is sufficiently lit, unless aggro-ed (such as with the Enderman). Everything else stays the same.--

This allows traditional base building at night without bed gimmicks, and keeps the danger of night exploration. It also fits the game lore of Phantoms disappearing at daybreak.

    since i feel like he summed it up perfectly, i'll quote USocky from Reddit;

I really hate the new Phantom mob. I like the basic premise of them - flying hostile undead mobs that hover like vultures and divebomb players. The issue I have is how they spawn - if you don't sleep in three days, they will spawn directly over you and attack.

Why exactly should I be punished for not sleeping for three days? Never in the game have I thought "You know what would improve my experience? Being forced to sleep every three days and being punished if I dont!". One of the best things about minecraft is the open-ended objectives. Want to follow the storyline and beat the ender dragon? Great! Want to build giant structures and place torches everywhere so you don't have to deal with mobs? Go for it! Want to be a hunter-gatherer nomad and explore the world freely? Sure, but don't forget to click your bed every three days!

I seriously don't understand how this positively adds to the gameplay experience. I think the mob is a cool idea, but being implemented as essentially a punishment for something so arbitrary as not sleeping X nights seems absurd to me. If anything it's just a huge annoyance when I've been doing whatever for hours, then it's "Well, I have to stop what I'm doing and click my bed or else I'm going to be harassed by these unavoidable mobs.".

i just dont understand why people are punished for not clicking their bed. What if i want to explore and not reset my spawnpoint?!

How come I survive every mob in this game just to be kicked off a ledge by the phantoms. Why do I survive skeletons, zombies, ghasts, wither skeletons, blazes and every other mob. But these things hit you twice in a pack of three after pushing you off something and boom you lose 60 levels of xp instantly. Not a good addition to the "mobs" nearly ruins this game for me. Yes they are extremely annoying! Their motion effect is sad to watch. Half the time when you hit them, they still hit you. They dont have a set path and so they move terribly throughout the game, getting stuck on all sorts of stuff and glitching all around in order to hit the player. It makes no sense that these things just keep coming after you kill one after the other. They dont make sense to me to be in this game.
I try to play on hard all the time. But I may try easy if it makes these things go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least something needs to change🤔

I do not like phantoms, I want an option to turn them off. They ruin night time survival adventures for me. They are a soft limit that is completely unnecessary to have, as they actually make it difficult to enjoy certain elements of the game.

phantoms work as intended punishing people who don't sleep enough and sleeping constantly wow you need to sleep once every 3 days no the humanity what a disaster quit whining and just sleep  once in a while

Phantoms are very annoying in survival mode.
Please either make them optional or have them in hardcore only.

heleenduren9000  "quit whining and just sleep" oh really? and why don't we just quit whining and just eat a carrot every 2.2 days or become blind; or quit whining and just go to y=255 every 4 days? The choice to punish the player for not sleeping every 3 days is baffling to me. It adds literally nothing enjoyable to the game and makes many styles of play unbearable.

People have said that creepers are annoying so phantoms shouldn't be removed for being annoying, but creepers have a hitbox that covers there whole body, creepers are not the fastest mob in the game, creepers don't spawn in light places, creepers don't take minutes to kill because they can't be attacked most of the time, creepers don't spawn close to the player in large flocks, creepers don't drop an item that is useless to 99.9% of players.

Phantoms need to be reworked or removed.

There is a 3-day timer of not sleeping after a phantom spawns.
To reset this timer, you DON'T HAVE TO ACTUALLY SLEEP.

According to Minecraft Wiki, the timer can be reset in these ways:

    • After you GET IN A BED, not sleep, so it is okay to just right-click the bed during night, and then click "Leave Bed".
    • After you die.

Because of the fact, that you don't have to successfully sleep, but just get in a bed and then leave it is enough, there are literally no issues with factions servers, and I do not think that they should even disable them – I think it is a nice addition to the game (of course, that is just my opinion). Phantoms are fairly balanced, and I think that they should be kept in the game.

Please do not remove my favourite mob!
I can understand that some people dislike creepers or phantoms, but this is not reason to remove these mobs completely from the game. It should be rather available option to disable spawning them among the new world options.

I think the administrator should remove rubbish posts like "remove phantoms/creepers" because they are only spam and displace very cool ideas for example connected with new mobs for the nether update.

Regardless of what is "rude" or  "unwelcome". The Phantom mob has not made the gameplay fun and exciting for the family anymore. I would like to see the mob's relevance significantly REDUCED.

Originally from Java Edition in my "day". Night time was about dangers of hostile mobs that come about on the ground. Creepers, spiders, skeletons, etc. They have a decent speed which a player can FLEE from. Not the Phantom. It is FASTER than a minecart and even with speed potions, outrunning the mob isn't easy.

Some will say "go sleep". What made minecraft FUN and exciting was for a person to be OUT at night and accept risks. NOT be bound to a BED. This causes REDUCED exploring and does NOT teach young people a confidence. Especially during nightfall. I play hitscan heroes in popular game titles and I have to admit that this mob would be rather difficult for a younger person to hit and it is. Because at the angle they attack, how difficult it is to aim for, and the fact that the mob ONLY drops a minimal amount of XP and 1 useful material for potion crafting. Which most young people do NOT do.

Counterplay to Walking mobs is one thing. Flying mobs has much greater dynamic.

Phantom mobs also send a NEGATIVE MESSAGE to people. It depicts itself as a BAT. I played Castlevania back in the NES days and Bats from that game such as the one after courtyard level. (1st floor castle boss) made for a Scary experience for me, when I was a child. I can imagine that for a YOUNG person this is not for fun for them.

Didn't they add the gamerule doInsomnia so you can disable this now? You can just use a simple ingame command command now to prevent them from spawning.

If you so much as tap your bed you get rid of phantoms for another three days. Besides, people need their slow falling potions, and there is a gamerule for turning off phantoms (doInsomnia)

Phantoms are TERRIBLE! Like WTF Mojang? What the hell possessed you to make phantoms as a game feature. I can't even go outside at night without endless waves of them.

    At least make them rare.

    Phantoms are god awful.

For the people that say they are easy to kill... Yes 1 is easy to kill, 6 of the spawned and all attacking you is not easy at all. Likely you will die.

For the people saying if you're on the move they aren't a problem. Yes they are. I literally just died running full speed towards home because I was getting hit every 0.25 seconds by phantoms.

This mob is absolute trash. I'm not saying get rid of them. But they are broken AF. for 1 there should never be more than 2 spawned and attacking you at a time. For 2 once you kill a few they should go away. If I want to farm skeletons or whatever outside I should be able to do that without having to ONLY pay attention to the sky. You cant kill them, you can't out run them, they never go away, this mob is broken.

I agree with what a lot of people have said about them being unnecessary - they only drop membranes, used to repair elytras. Nobody who has an elytra is busy picking up membranes to repair it - they are end game enough to have mending and unbreaking.

My main dislike for the phantoms is that they break the freedom that makes minecraft such a unique game. It is a game of exploration - you can roam the world, day or night, discovering the locations that minecraft has to offer. However phantoms make this nearly impossible - within 3 nights of roaming there are suddenly a lot of them in the sky. They cannot be outran - the only options are to sleep or to hide. Hiding? Removes your ability to explore at night, thus meaning there's no point. The alternative - sleeping. The issue with this is that you either leave a trail of beds in your wake or you destroy your despawn point constantly. Either way, this is frustrating because the instant this happens you lose your respawn location at your base, and it gets reset to somewhere either random or back at spawn.

This doesn't even begin to cover the difficulties that they cause while building and on servers which don't apply the gamerule, however I'm running out of characters to use. A quick note is that I love to build at night and see it lit up with the night around it.

Phantoms remove the freedom of building, and also the free nomadic lifestyle that made minecraft what it was.

Phantoms are tedious, they fly down way too infrequently and they simply limit different styles of play, I used to love roaming around and settling for a little bit before leaving that base and running for ages through days and nights until I find a cool new place, I now can't do that and have to settle and sleep a lot more frequently than I used to.

I also enjoy monster hunting, but phantoms have made monster hunting not fun at all, they always swoop in and hit you for next to nothing damage, but enough knockback to knock you into a creeper, or into a small group of mobs.

They are so irregular that it's very hard to counter them unless your attention is fully on them which is very dangerous! I can fight all the other standard night time mobs around the same time, spiders can be drawn out of groups, you can draw mobs in between you and a skeleton to use their arrows to deal extra damage, you can get a creeper to explode in a group of mobs, phantoms swoop down for a minuscule amount of time and then fly right away.

I play on ps4 and am working towards getting the platinum trophy with a friend, and we play on his world. Due to the fact that Microsoft are still YET to add servers into ps4 Minecraft, often he has to leave the world open to I can play while he's doing other things, meaning I cannot sleep to get rid of them, fully limiting my playstyle, I cannot allow cheats to get rid of them, or sleep either. Make them swoop more frequently, or add some other way of repelling them.

Alright, Listen up, noobs (as In AFK fishers and such), I actually do approve of phantoms, even though Mob D was your favorite or you wanted mob C, mob b made the vote.

First off, we barely use sleep In Minecraft, and servers don't cut It. There Is a "doinsomnia" rule now, and by doing so, servers are an exception. Sleep needed a unique reason why we SHOULD aside from passing the night.

Further more, just cause you other phantom defenders attack their words of speech may kinda make you seem overly judgemental, and taking their freedom of speech.

And lastly, I may sound like a hypocrite, but shame on the guy who swore on this post, as this Is a Minecraft website, and you may make overprotective parents not wanting kids to play the game.

Overall, while everyone has their opinion, I have my word: Mojang Is Against most afk farms, and WE voted for these. So calm your butts and just play Minecraft. Doinsomnia exists to help servers, the only normal flying mob that's hostile Is being hated By Ignorant kids... You hate phantoms, Why don't you hate creepers? Again, It ain't just mojang, we voted for them on minecon 2018(?)

Go spread your hate on reddit If your so salty. Ain't my fault, ain't mojang's. Sure they could use a slightly larger hitbox, but they essentially make sleeping useful.

Edit: Im not really trying to be rude, nor' was I mad at the time, I was trying to rant about the absolute Nut-city I was seeing here. I saw some suggestions to make phantoms easy, so there's that too.

Attn: everyone who wants Phantoms removed... /gamerule doInsomnia false

Yes you need to have op on a server or cheats enabled to do this, but you do have the option to remove Phantoms from your worlds already.
(You can also set gamerules on world creation now if I'm not mistaken.)

For everyone who loves Phantoms just ignore this gamerule option and keep enjoying them.

    Issue resolved.

    I really hate Phantoms.

I have been playing Minecraft since the Alpha days, which feels like a century ago. Almost every single update since the early times has been a general net positive for me. I enjoy the large number of mobs, the more realistic biome "feel" of generated lands, and I'm excited for the Cave updates that are going to functionally change how Minecraft caves work.

    However, I HATE PHANTOMS.

Never once have I ever, in my history of playing the game, wished for a mob like that. I never wanted a mob that actively punished the player for spending "too much time above ground and not sleeping." It deeply discourages players from long-term exploration and harshly handicaps the ability to travel across the world map without the need for a resting spot.

Sure you can fight your way through the night, the Zombies, the Skeletons, the Witches, and the Creepers (etc.)

But what do you do when Phantoms spawn? Nothing. You die. Only relatively late-game players stand a chance of fighting back, otherwise you have to force yourself underground or into an enclosed space, which really sucks the fun out of the whole Minecraft experience.

I have never really had problems with phantoms , and I don't want them gone . They only spawn when you haven't slept in several days and I have almost never been attacked by them . Most of the time I stay indoors at night , and most of the time the other people playing in my worlds go to bed on time . Also I can get calling them annoying , but if that is why you want them gone then why not get rid of zombies , creepers , skeletons , and any other hostile mob because they are all annoying too . Minecraft is about fighting to survive , so fighting the phantom is just another thing you gotta do .

I don't know. Even I find them annoying but do you see them, they are graceful and just cool looking. I think we should keep them. Plus the title said they were breaking the game. How is this breaking the game. Phantomns make night more excited and minecraft is only fun when it is hard so in my opinion... phantomn stays.

Over 2 years later, Phantoms are one of the most hated mobs in the game.

Why? When they spawn, they spawn in swarms. If you kill the entire swarm, another swarm spawns, sometimes before you can even kill the entire swarm, leading to having 4 of the dive bombing pieces of crap chasing you down.

On a server this is doubly annoying. Why? Because the easiest way to get rid of them in solo, sleeping, is NOT always an option depending on the server.

Additionally, their AI is genuinely dumb, they repeatedly get stuck in walls, under roofs, etc. It feels like whomever designed them only put in half of the effort they should have.

Lastly, for such an annoying hazard, they happen far, FAR too often, and unlike other mobs who don't spawn near light sources, there's no real way to stop them from spawning over an area besides building unsightly glass domes. There's no automated turrets to shoot at them, there's no block you can put on a pedestal to ward them off, there's no armor enchantments that drive them away, etc. Honestly, as I type this, I'm looking up a server side mod to just outright remove them from the game.

The game felt far, far better before these nuisances were introduced with literally zero way to handle them other than to sleep, go inside, or stare at the sky with a bow/sword all night.

    10/10 Idiotic Design

I have come back to Minecraft as i still think it is one of the classic games.  Have to agree, the Phantoms DO ruin the ability to scout or build during nighttime. The are not tough once you earn a Power V Infinity Bow (lol), but because of their extreme spawn rate, they really just add an annoyance to the game, which is a tremendous shame.  Anything that is just not necessary or is annoying to a major part of the game, should be seriously looked at and fixed.

My suggestion is keep it the same, but once you kill off the initial spawn wave, they cannot spawn again until the next night cycle.  This way, you still have to deal with them if they spawn, but the are not designed to just be annoying and limit your ability to explore at night or build at night if you want to...

I still like the mob, cool design, love to see more recipes or options to make them even more valuable.  But the current condition takes away from a great game, which is a shame.

Agree, because phantom is very very annoying when building something at night
