Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

nether wart blocks can be turned back into nether wart

We got a nether wart block, and it's not really useful.

It feels like it should be like most other blocks items. compress to store more, but then you can't decompress, and that nether wart gets wasted.

Could we just get the option to turn nether wart blocks back into nether wart?

    No. Jeb does not want Nether Wart Blocks to work this way, as you can see in this comment on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/4kkp3j/nether_wart_blocks_cannot_be_crafted_back_into/d3g4ypm/).

    Look man, they got this place up for throwing ideas out there. Netherwart blocks are kind of useless both functionally, and decoratively.

    If they're going to say"No we're doing it our way, this is the only way, and no two ways about it." then there's no point in you or I posting ideas here in the first place. 

    At the very least I've put the idea out there. If they use it then great, if not, oh well, not a heavy blow all things considered. 

    Every other nine item block has a reverse recipe. I don't see any good reason nether wart should be any different.

    Apologies if my first comment was a little curt, I should have been nicer. I'm not saying nobody should share their ideas or that this is a bad idea - I think it would be a nice addition too - but, and this is key, it is relatively rare to have Mojang straight-up say they don't want something in the game, and when they do, they usually have a good reason for it. This is one of those times. So I'm just letting you know that you will need to address Jeb's points here specifically to bolster the case for why this should be added.

    I don't see the point of disallowing this though. Every other compressed goods block decompresses. What is the point of this one block being the exception to the rule when the resulting block is frankly useless?

    There are other "compressed" blocks that can't be uncrafted.  String to wool is the first that comes to my mind.  Same with quartz to the quartz block.

    The other thing is Jeb gives one very good reason for the nether wart block to not be also a storage block for nether wart.  Specifically the ability to use the block in future cosmetic (nether?) structures without removing the necessity to find a fortress to find nether wart.

    What's wrong with it being a purely decorative block?  It's absolutely awesome as a decorative block.  And I can't really imagine needing to carry around enough nether wart that crafting it into blocks would be an absolute necessity.

    string to wool is not compressing. if it was nine string, and created a spool of string, then yes that would clearly be a "compressed block" however its made fairly clear that this is taking something, and making it into a completely different product.

    More over the combination needed to make wool is a 2 by 2 rather than a 3 by 3 combination, and I think that could be considered a stable definition of what is a compressed block, and what is not since it has been pretty consistent up until we get to the nether wart. It doesn't make sense.

    There is nothing wrong with it being used for decoration. I use compressed blocks to decorate all the time. The fact that I could decompress them for the product does absolutely nothing to hinder my use in such a way.

    The argument that you don't want this block to be deconstructed because you MIGHT use it in other nether constructions for future updates is honestly not a good one.

    Take the updates before nether wart was a fortress exclusive thing. People still went to go find the fortress. They where stable ground in the highly destructive landscape filled with ghasts, They have loot chests, and some mobs only spawn consistently within these fortresses. The game will not be lesser in this regard if nether wart of all things could be found in another construction .

    Which leads me to the second point. If this block, that apparently can be found in another build within the nether still can't be deconstructed into nether wart, and I have to assume that this block is one of the big reasons to find this place, because we have nothing to go on other than the quote that it MIGHT be used in a future update. Why would you give me FEWER reasons to want to find this other structure? wouldn't the draw be "Hey there's a versatile, and useful block here, I want to go find this new structure." Otherwise all I'd think is"Well I could go look for this new structure to get this decoration block already made. . .  .or I could go to the fortress where there is this and everything else a fortress has to catch my attention."

    Shouldn't a new structure include the incentive to find it? Otherwise you wind up with the same issue that came with lamas and parrots. You got something that looks nice. . . but it does basically nothing for you but look good. Functionality is just as important as decoration in this game.

    I agree with this. I mean, you can do this with Bone Blocks, so why not Nether Wart.

    Actually MacchuPicchu96  is right (and so is Jeb); the Nether update introduces a Nether Wart Forest composed of Nether wart blocks, and it would be overpowered if you can craft those into brewable Nether warts. Jeb's comment actually confirms that brewable Nether warts will remain exclusive to the Nether fortress, which is a bit unfortunate for this idea.

    perhaps but it would eliminate the need for raiding nether fortresses. Chopping down crimson trees would be very OP in terms of how much nether wart it would give you.

    I think this is a very good idea because I accidentally switch my nether wart in the blocks thinking that I could switch it back and then when I found out you couldn't I was so freaking mad. A whole nether fortress worth of nether wart wasted.

    They should add a way to fly like morphing I see all these people on there computers with that but they won t put any out for ps4,phones,or even Xbox, I want to be able to grow ores make smelters that are fast and be able to create a double chest that can act like a ender chest with color coding but they won't who on this chat has ever wanted to play minecraft like crazy craft or some other version but they won't put it on disc please vote for this becouse minecraft is starting to get old I used to love playing it,but it's just gotten old,I want something that will white me when I play something that amazes me not one change that does nothing but makes it more boring I want to be able to build more create more and craft fight and kill more mobs please vote and make this happen this update has done nothing for is but add 2 useful things like netherite and curse of vanishing witch makes it almost impossible for you to die by a mob please vote and let Mojang know they have to create something interesting otherwise their going to loose money if they create something like this they will get a crap ton of cash

    I would have supported this idea a few years ago. But now that the Nether Update has happened, it would be a terrible idea. It would make normal nether wart farming useless since you could get so much more by growing crimson fungi. For the sake of balance, the nether wart block must remain a one-way recipe.

    Is it just me that can’t get a world anymore where I can’t actually find nether wart, in my past 3 worlds I’ve had stacks of diamonds and iron and blaze rods, ender pearls etc (I even got a either skull before I could find nether wart in any of the 3 worlds). Starting to feel like a waste of time if I can’t do certain things because certain items I can’t obtain.

    The reason they made it this way is because nether warts are late game items. You make potions with them, which depending on what you make, might be overpowered. Now that there are mushrooms trees everywhere that use nether wart blocks as leaves, it would be very easy to access this item, get soul sand, and then farm it in the overworld.

    Maybe they could just make the nether wart block that grows in the forest a different type like "Nether Wart Mass" or make a different compressed block that looks a few pixels different and is called "Bushel of Nether Wart" or "Packed Nether Wart" so you can get the resources back from the ones you craft only. Keep balance and let people have a potential Nether Wart stockpile theme, and yes it does help if you plan on doing a quick thorough raid of a Nether Fortress if you can compress all the Nether Wart to secure your farming and supply of it in the event you actually get a few rooms full of it while you inventory is nearly full.
