Dyed, floating leaves would also add an interesting option for visual effects.

Glass is dyable and transparent, and you've all seen some of the crazy visual effects that can be achieved by layering glass. Imagine being able to do something similar, but with more opaque colors and with texture!

Are you proposing that leaves be dyeable by the player via crafting (i.e., pink dye + leaf block = pink leaf block), or are you simply proposing that colors of leaves change with the seasons? If the latter, then I love the idea, but unfortunately it has been brought up in other posts before. If the former, then... I wouldn't be convinced that it would be a good idea (green dyed leaf blocks??).

Also, how would you address the concerns of a player who wants a green leaf block as decoration all year round?

I prefer new trees in new biomes with different seasonal leaves to leaves that change color based on the seasons.  Especially since there aren't seasons in Minecraft...

The nice thing about a new spring biome and a new fall biome is the player could take these new season based trees and plant them anywhere.

@ClayGoddessSari Yes, that's also very much a viable alternative

If they look stupid, don’t build them.  Enough said.

Yes. please, this would be great, it would open so many possibilities for themed building and forests, imagine a meadow surrounded with cherry blossoms and a single sakura in the middle

I'd love to see more wood types. It would defiitely improve many builds. However, since Minecraft is global, some features should be thought out carefully to prevent certain people groups from pissing off. Have a look at this video, and you'll understand what I mean. Even though cherry blossom trees don't have a known origin, the connotation associated to the country, especially the one with colonial history, may make some people feal a bit bitter. Keep your comic book and video scene recreations personal.

I had posted a similar suggestion and it must have been deleted by the staff here.

I suggested being able to dye already sheared leaves. It makes it easier on the game devs because it is basically adding a skin to a block. This could be done in the crafting table and would allow the use of all the colors. :)

Yes please, I've been trying to make a cherry tree in my world as a memorial for a friend. But the wool ones look so fake. If I would dye leaves then I would make an actual tree.

Alternative solution could be to add a cherry tree type to the game. Including cherries as a food type pickup.
