Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Are you talking about a standalone Wedge Block here, or is this a general block type that you'd like to see for all kinds of materials (as in, Stone Brick Wedge Block, End Stone Wedge Block, Oak Wood Planks Wedge Block, etc.)?

Also, could you let us know why you think this is a good idea and/or how it would fit well with the rest of the game?

Visually, I'd like to see a bunch of varieties for roof lines, but I know that goes a little against the blocky nature of minecraft. I'd really like it in ice. It would serve map makers well as a one way other than a locking door or a 2 block drop. It would also be a nice way to force movement without player interaction, and to make slides in general that didn't require a boat and snow, and would make for a better waterslide.

I'd like to see this for the colored terracotta blocks, so there'd be a reason to build with them again...

They'd also be good for building Nether chutes and funnels.

Yes, I had this same idea. It would be a unique block I think (no wooden slide, stone slide, etc) just something slippery like marble. I imagine you could place it any way you can place a slanted rail - only the 4 directions, always with the base resting on the ground, so not upside-down (then you couldn't slide on it!).

    Some mechanics:

    • After sliding a long time, you wouldn't get fall damage when you touch the ground at the bottom.
    • You could have the same control you do when you're falling, i.e. air-control - you can slide slowly to one side or the other by holding down the appropriate movement key, slow down with the down arrow, and speed up with the up arrow.
    • You would take reduced fall damage if you fell from a high height onto a slide block.

Not only would this be a lot of fun :), it would add a new way to transport mobs around, and make some interesting minigames!

Though slide blocks should be placed upsidedown for building and aesthetic purposes, there are several applications to this. The block would be like stairs, but the stairs part is a smooth angle. These blocks would be crafted from blocks with smooth finishes, such as copper, glass, terracotta, or any of the polished variety of blocks such as polished diorite, granite, or stone. These could also be cut with the appropriate block in the stone cutter table. Slide blocks can turn the way stairs would turn, causing a bank or curve in placement.

We could use this to slide down from a mountain top to the ground below. Sliding down a block will increase speed and mitigate fall damage. The slide must end at a solid block, lava, or water to stop the slide, or continue falling until the player lands.

Combining a water bucket and a slide block in a crafting table would create a water slide block. Combining packed snow and a slide block in a crafting table would create a snow slide block. These blocks would allow the player to create a water slide and ski slope.

All variants of slide blocks cannot be ascended unless the player is wearing boots enchanted with Frost Walker. Landing on a slide block from a higher point will reduce fall damage, and eliminate fall damage if landing on a water slide block. Players cannot remain stationary on a slide block, as gravity would pull them downward. Moving forward would accelerate the rate of descent; moving backward would slow the rate of descent.

Additionally, if moving from a slide block to another block of the same material (ie copper slide block to copper), the player would still move from momentum, but the descent would stop, like when walking on ice blocks.  This could allow slide blocks to be connected to flat blocks to other slide blocks, causing a bump and a more realistic ski slope or waterside.  This would allow the player to build elaborate ski jumps, leaving air and a slide block below to land on and continue sliding.

Items dropped down a slide slope would slide until the next flat block.  Mobs would treat the slide like stairs and would avoid them unless knocked onto it.  They would slide down to the next flat block.
