Well it's definitely a cool idea and more realistic, but sadly, I think it will just make people avoid snow biomes completely. They already are not the most popular.

my suggestion is to start giving you a slow effect if it was 4 slabs or higher! 😁
    i think that's a lot better idk 😋

yea I think this could be a great idea to make Minecraft more real-like because I live in Alaska and I have to deal with snow about 3 feet up!

I think this would be a nice addition. Balancing this effect with a specific type of armor/enchantment would offset the frustration of a constant speed debuff while in a snow biome.

    • Hooved animals could be immune to this effect. Would incentivize taming mounts.
    • Snow shoes could be added. They might severely reduce the speed debuff or negate it entirely. I'm typically against items with very specific use-cases, but this would be a very minimal addition similar to the turtle shell.
    • In Bedrock, snow piles up after every storm. At 1 layer, this effect could be minimal or absent and increase with every layer after. Replicating the pile effect across all versions would be very welcome, especially if it came with gameplay changes. If this change did come to fruition, snow would have to dissipate over time so snowy biomes don't become completely ruined after a couple storms.
    • This change could be a small addition to a larger update. As of now, snowy biomes have very little to warrant a fundamental change in traversal. Players need a reason to brave the cold, or else they'll avoid the biome entirely.
    • An enchantment negating the effect entirely would be nice, though I'd hate wasting levels and diamonds on making a new pair of boots specifically to get through snow easier.
    • What effect would this have on existing minigames?
    • Having players shovel snow off their walkways or build with snowfall in mind would be a very creative approach at emergent gameplay.

(PS: why don't leaves turn white while it's snowing in Java, huh, Mojang?)

Would be especially funny if a pack of angered wolves is hunting you down at that time xD

The closest thing that can slow you down in those biomes are the Strays shooting arrows of slowness at you anyhow.

In order to avoid making it anoying, an enchantment could be created to walk faster in the snow (just like depth strider!) An even more exciting idea to solve yhis issue would be to add snowshoes! (could be crafted with sticks/bamboo and strings)

Well if we are trying to be realistic you should also Die of Frostbite and fall over if you try to sprint in Snow making you Quickly die of Frostbite

The idea is good, since that would make campfires nowadays be a bit useful. Also, another effect like Frostbite should happen as well. But, I guess what would really make people NOT avoid snow biomes is that, make Snow as one of the Seasons. This way, any biome except the desert one, will have snow depending on the days or something. This way, it will make it more challenging when the "Winter is coming".

Good idea. People are saying they think players would find it annoying, but I see it as just being the overworld version of soul sand. It creates a problem the player has to solve, and in real life you do avoid the snow. I like the details being suggested, such as horses not being affected by it, layers increasing the effect, etc.

    Yeah, good idea!

Unfortunately, this might make me not like snow biomes anymore

    Is this the snowier snow?

This could be a neat mechanic.

    - The deeper snow layers would slow you down slightly-more.

    - The player could sink the longer they stand on layered snow.

    - The deeper the player is (in the snow layers), the slower the player would be.

    - The player would not be able to sink 1 full block (avoiding quicksand mechanics) because a full block of snow layers turns into a normal full snow-block.

What what if the snow is slower but if you craft snow boots you could walk across it at regular speed

Its a nice idea, however i feel as if people would avoid snow. we already have powdered snow.
