Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

I think this could be better written but I love the concept. To make it simple, this should adopt the CMYK color model, which uses varying amounts of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black - all colors we have already - to create every other color. I think you should be able to change the color of each pixel individually, using up different amounts of each dye depending on the color you choose for the pixel.

It would be pretty complex but it might be worth it.

Here is my idea fort how custom Paintings would work!

Let’s start off with improving the paintings system that we already have. When you place down a painting, something would pop up on your screen where you can actually choose the size of your painting. This would be so much faster and better for players. Once you choose your size, two options will pop up at the bottom of your screen. These two options are “okay” and “custom”. Pressing okay will just put a random painting just like normal but you choose the size. Pressing custom though would bring up a close up of the painting size that you chose. When this close up happens, you will be able to paint your own painting! This would help players express their creativity in an easy way when they aren’t in creative! When you are in survival though, you can’t make a custom right away. You would first have to craft a paint brush and a paint palette. You would craft a paint brush by placing a feather on top of two sticks in the crafting table. To craft a paint palette you would have to put a bunch of slabs in the crafting table in the shape of a paint palette. If you don’t have these two things, the custom option will be kind of dark and you wouldn’t be able to press on it. If you accidentally break your custom painting, no worries! When making the painting, you can save it to a place called “My Custom Paintings”. You can access this place when in the custom painting close up. Just click on your saved painting, and you will be able to use it! Once finished with your custom painting, you will have the option to name it! If you name it, the name you chose will appear on a little wooden sign underneath your painting. 👍🎨

I think a blend of MacchuPicchu and JakeSnake's ideas would be great! I love the pixel editor aspect, and also the size selector and a custom folder for created paintings. It almost seems borderline mod territory, but the existing paintings are pretty limited compared to the variety of architecture you can make with vanilla minecraft.

I think this is a good idea but because of the pictures the need for banners may disappear.

классная идея, это будет намного проще, чем рисовать картинки на картах

table to make our own pictures, so we could make the pictures block by block, with the paints we had in hand, and the items we have in our inventory could also be placed in the painting

I like this idea but its already in the game (sort of) with map art which is harder but i think it should be.

Also this is readily available in a number of Mods

Something similar to this could be added, but I think it would be better to add tapestries (images woven out of coloured string) made on a loom using dye, wool or carpets, and string to create something similar to a banner, but it covers the whole side of a block. Tapestries would also be useable as carpets. You could connect tapestries to make a bigger one which would be made up of the tapestries and would act like a larger painting. Tapestries would also be able to hang from the ceiling.

Here's an expansion of that idea.
I think the resolution should be 16x16. That way, it matches the resolution of typical minecraft textures.
Each painting would be the size of one side of one block.
A painting would always come with a frame, so you know it's a painting.
When you put two paintings next to each other, their frames would fuse. For example, placing two would become one framed 2x1 painting.
This also applies around corners. You could feasibly place a painting on each of the five exposed sides of a chest or other block to disguise it as something else, like TNT. The frame on the ground would still give it away for eagle-eyed players.
If you place paintings all over your entire house, you could make it appear as though it were made out of a much rarer material, like netherite, without actually having the netherite on hand in survival.
Since the frames all fuse together except for the contact point with the ground, it could also add visually appealing framing to the house and windows.
At the very least, this would make pixel art much more compact.

Awesome idea. It would also make it possible to fuse multiple "paintings" together to create a much larger painting!

I also like the weaving concept with the loom.

This idea is something I have wanted since I started playing Minecraft back in 2011. It would be really nice to see this feature added years later.

I like the idea where we use CMYK. I also like the idea of fused frames, but it should be optional so that if you "use" one of the paintings, any paintings touching it toggle the fused frames state. I would be fine without the fused frames feature, tho. I think the 4 colors of relevant dye should be part of recipes for paint, and the other component should be eggs, like old-school egg tempera. Paint that is cyan, magenta, yellow, black, and white is stored in the easel.  A simplified color selector limits the number of color swatches but is based on a CMYK color wheel. If any paints are running low, the color swatches requiring them are greyed out. Images are limited in resolution to match the 1-tile paintings already available in-game. Canvases should be craftable and are required for a custom painting (4 Sticks and 5 Tall Grass, representing a stretched linen canvas). Once complete, the player gets a Masterpiece item that is similar to a Painting item but only displays the custom image and is the object wherein the image data is stored. Other paintings could behave as usual with regard to changing shape and size and image depending on placement, but when placing them as a 1-tile image, the image they display could also be randomly selected from any Masterpiece in the player’s inventory. If a Masterpiece is ever destroyed, all paintings that use that image would revert to any other random 1-tile image in the default set.

I think there could also be an artist villager that could sell dyes and maybe you would use the new brush item to spread the paint on stuff and the workstation would be the full painting canvas on the easel

I love the idea of being able to create personalized, small-scale decorative items, but the new UI and mechanics mentioned seems "un-minecrafty" to me. How about instead we could use existing map art mechanics, but support small-scale maps (for example, 1-4 chunks on a side) to make it a more accessible mechanic. It would also be nice to be able to craft different style picture frames to mount paintings using an item frame surrounded by planks or nuggets to get different styles.
