How would it feel to have a “portable note block”? How about working instruments? They would be extremely similar to note blocks, but can be carried around and still played. To play them, you would right click to change the note, left click to play the note, shift+right click would change the octave, and shift+left click would change the method of playing (bows or plucking on string instruments, for example).
Here’s a list of ideas I have, with crafting recipes:
•Viola (x=wood, y=string, z=slab)

The cello would be the same as viola, but with a stick at the bottom rather than string. The double bass would be the same as the violin, but with a stick at the base rather than string.
