Like the dolphin, we could have an effect if we are close to them. It would be a small night vision.

We could tame or lure them with raw rabbit or with bucket of tadpole.

Maybe they could have different textures, like horses and parrots? Also, I think that they could not only carry books but also other items like potions, arrows, food, etc.--- just not to use for themselves! (Maybe if the person who tamed the owl interacted with it, the owl would give them their held item?) Also since real owls eat fish, maybe owls in this context could also be tamed using fish(probably salmon or cod).

Overall, I think this is a GREAT idea. (But the idea of owls carrying books, which in this context could be considered letters, makes me think of Harry Potter, not Minecraft.)

Owls are such a diverse bird that they could be added to any biome and could catch small creatures of there respective biomes, such as rabbits, frogs, mice, and really any young baby mob in Minecraft...

if Owls are in cold climate biomes they could seek shelter or warmth in trees, players houses, torches, campfires.

I think like cats, they should give you gifts they get while hunting. This tweak makes them more like irl birds of prey - which we have used in hunting before - as opposed to carrier pigeons (which could also be added because we need more birds).

I love this idea! I think this is a good idea to start with, and definitely something Mojang could build off of. Owls in Minecraft would be so cool. I myself have a family of owls that lives in a tree right next to my house. The vibe they give off and the sounds they make (especially at night) sound so much like something a Minecraft snowy forest needs. Right now, the snowy and taiga forests are pretty empty and have a very bland mood. Owls with or without the ability you mentioned are just a good idea altogether.

Great idea I feel like the sending books is more like a pigeon still a good idea nonetheless I also think that they would hunt small mobs like rabbits which should be how you tame them

Minecraft, developed by Mojang Studios, needs more life at night—and owls would be the perfect addition.

Owls could be fully nocturnal mobs that sleep during the day and come alive at night. Their silent flight and glowing eyes would make forests feel mysterious and alive instead of empty.

They could have a unique ability: detecting nearby mobs in the dark. A tamed owl could alert players to danger or highlight enemies, making nighttime exploration less random and more strategic.

Owls could also hunt small mobs like spiders and silverfish, naturally helping players. Taming them with fish could turn them into useful companions that follow, scout, or perch nearby.

They could drop special feathers used to craft “Silent Arrows” with improved accuracy or reduced sound, adding a new combat style.

Owls would also improve atmosphere with soft hooting sounds and fit perfectly in forests, taigas, and snowy biomes, with different variants depending on location.

Owls are unique, useful, and highly requested. They would make Minecraft nights more immersive, strategic, and exciting.
