In my opinion, the new blue ice although "expensive" to obtain, makes fast travel a bit too easy. If we go way back to older versions the different transport methods measured up better to each other. Walking and running was quite slow and used food. Having ice tunnels with low ceiling was faster, still used food and more effort to build. However, the fastest option at the time was the piston bolt, a Redstone contraption that used a lot of materials and took alot of time to build, involved the player getting creative in coming up with the system and as the most expensive option also had the benefit of not having to eat and being automatic. All those systems had a nice balance to each other where if you wanted to go faster it was more expensive and take more time to build. With the blue ice, one can go way faster than with any other system in the game at the moment, no matter the resources or ingenuity the player spends to come up with a custom system. In previous versions of the game, there have been player built systems that reached 40m/s and they all have been patched away, now Mojang comes along with a way faster system that involves no special effort in building and very low material cost in comparison. In my opinion this not balanced at all and they either should consider making the blue ice slower or even better allowing mechanics that player build systems can be faster than the new ice. Building the blue ice transport is also really boring gameplaywise in comparison to building a piston bolt or a comparable system
