Rice

Rice is the most widely consumed staple food (especially in Asia), it should be in Minecraft too. Rice seeds can be obtained similarly to obtaining wheat seeds, by destroying grass. But you can only find it in some biomes (for example tropical biome).

You have to plant the rice seeds in water (one block height) and a fully grown rice plant is two blocks high (so it is visible above the water). You can then harvest it and transform the rice into different meals:

  • Rice + bowl = Bowl of rice
  • Rice + dried kelp + fish = Maki sushi
  • Rice + bowl + chicken + carrot = Fried rice
  • Rice + Sugar = Mochi (rice cake)

Maybe you could make a bag of rice with nine “pieces” of it.

    I am Filipino. Me and my Chinese friend eat rice. We can can harness it's energy. Please add these to Minecraft.

    Maybe instead of planting it in water you could make farmland waterloggable and it would make it so rice can be planted their

    I know there is a lot of food in minecraft, but I think rice is a good addition due to its ubiquity. Definitely good to have another food to grow in water besides just kelp.
    If it were as hearty as bread but one rice to one bowl, it would also be an extremely space-efficient food source since you can pack 9*64 food into one item slot at the cost of needing to carry a bowl around.

    It would make sense for rice to naturally spawn by river beds line sugar cane does, but only being one block high and can expand out from water source blocks a few blocks. Due to this meaning rice would be easy to gather in relatively high amounts, having to combine 9 rice to make it into a packed rice item would be a good balancement idea, which would then have to be used to craft the above recipes e.g. 3 packed rice and 1 sugar = 1 mochi which could fill 2 hunger, 3 packed rice, 1 carrot, one chicken a bowl = fried rice and could feed 5 hunger. These would make cooking in Minecraft more interesting and also create both harder and easier recipes that fill more unique amounts of your hunger bar. This could be expanded into lots of different recipes for already existing food recources but that is for another thread.

    Skip the fried rice, but I like the way this requires the bowl.  Its great that the bowl could have more uses.  Maybe just call the second food sushi and not Maki sushi, although that is more accurate.

    Served with rice balls. Meat, fish, kombu seaweed, potatoes, and other ingredients are surrounded by eight pieces of rice. Depending on the rice and ingredients, you can expect to feel full for a long time. I think it's essential for long distance travel. In ancient Japan, postmen used rice balls as a few rations of food and took turns with workmates, and ran long distances on foot.

    I love this but your idea only covers Japanese food! Maybe only adding steamed rice that everyone knows and eats will be better than stuff like mochi or sushi! Mojang is currently going for diversity so they may not add japanese food alone!

    If Mojang does accept this idea, they should make it so that after harvested, you would have to put it in a furnace with the fuel source being water so it could steam the rice. I think this would just be a good idea because first off it would add more depth in cooking and food in minecraft and it would help more people feel represented in minecraft.

     Then you just basically ruined the Minecraft marketplace attachment farm life  One of the plays Touchman was already ruined by the world update I don’t need another attachment ruined .

    Yes I agree. As rice is my fav food I would love to see it in Minecraft. It should be planted in water, but rice plants use a LOT of water irl, so mabye we should have to replace the water every time it runs out
