Food eating speeds are all the same, which is boring. Let’s fix that

I like this idea. Another idea that I had while reading this post is that food items restore hunger over time instead of all at once, although admittedly that might make it too complicated.

Different time for each food would make players choose what food is better for each situation and make them vary their diet.

Should the time for eating a golden carrot last longer or be shorter?

i liked this idea too. i think all of edible things must be affected by this idea, like potions and milk.

oh! i have a brilliant additional idea! your idea should affect walking speed too! for simple you can also eat a spider eye or drink a spell while running, but eating steak should slow down your walking speed more.IAMNERD.

I like it. Maby I should stack my chest with bread and cake, because I get in a lot of fights on survival, and they would be in between fast and slow to eat.

This would be a nice addition. When sweet berries were introduced, I was thinking that they should have shorter eating animations than the standard time it takes.
Having it proportional to the hunger it restores is also great. Maybe for the time it takes, it should not be any longer than it already takes (I think it’s currently 3 seconds) or it might seem like a chore.

That will be possible in 1.12 Bedrock Edition and it's something I'm going to do as an Add-On

This is a good idea as many players choose one type of food and stick to that, but this makes it a better idea to have different types of foods for how fast you want to eat them, which would really get more use out of craftable meals like soup and pie.

i think this is a good idea, like when you eat an apple and a god apple there is no differents. I think different eating speed is gonna make the game more difficult but it would be a cool little detail. thumbsup from me.

When on the topic of food items I think it would be cool if constantly eating one type of food would decrease the food points (i.e meat clubs on the bar).

Not so that it becomes annoying.

Example: for every 32 steak you eat you get one food point less until you only get four food points per steak. To regain the efficiency of steak you would instead have to eat something else and it would slowly get more food points.

This would encourage the player to make different types of farms instead of just one, and spice up the gameplay in my opinion.

This would be really cool, and would add realism to the game in a very small way. We could make it so if you stop eating, depending on when you stop eating, you could also have half a steak if you stopped eating half way through, or a quater if you stop eating 3/4th of the way through. But just the speed idea in general is cool

I agree but eating speed should only be faster and not slower than the current one.

Why are you so against nerfs of any kind? I think that higher quality foods should be a little slower to eat because it balances with the greater nutritional value derived from eating them. Please explain your reasoning if you disagree.

I still wish they would add the saturation bar instead of letting the player guess when they have to eat again.

Food in general could use a rebalance. Eating time, saturation, regeneration amount, hunger restored, etc. All could use some tweaks.

There shouldn't be a go to best food. Each food should have it's own advantages and disadvantages. Quite possibly, some should have a negative effect. (Think hunger from rotten flesh, but not as an effect.)

Imagine if the TPS on a server was crap. It would take FOREVER

This would definitely be a good addition. Farming plants is really easy and yields a ton of food (stacks upon stacks of potatoes), but if my porkchop stack gets low, I'd still go out and slaughter wild pigs (or fish) simply because they provide better saturation (and therefore better regen) per item.

I agree. I also have some more ideas. Maybe you could eat sweet berries almost instantly, cooked meat would take 3-4 seconds, water and honey would be 2, ect. This would be useful on PvP servers (which I don't even play but know about) and in singleplayer mobfights as well.

    Got my vote
And i agree with another comment suggestion a the hunger bar increasing over time after eating.

I don't think it should be proportional to how much hunger the food restores as the carrot and golden carrot should take the same amount of time to eat, but the former is only half as good.

Also it should just be divided into 2 speeds: short (like kelp) for berries, apples, drinks, cookies, carrots, potatoes, etc. and long (like all other foods now) for steaks, chickens, soups, etc.
    Soups should also be stackable.

I would just make something like:

    1) Fast eating food: Dried kelp, any berries, cookies, spider eye

    - Take as long as dried kelp to eat

    - Don't cancel running, so you can eat them during escapes

    - Don't give regeneration boost

    2) Regular food: Most of the food

    - Regular eating speed

    - Slow you down while eating them

    - Don't give regeneration boost

    3) Slow eating food: Stews, soups

    - Take longer than normal eating speed to eat them

    - You need to stop moving to eat them

    - Give regeneration boost, so they would be worth it to make (instead of just eating each ingredient like with rabbit stew)
