Hey there! We're a Mac & Linux household, and we love the Java edition, and run our own server. But we'd also really like to enjoy the cross-platform play of the Bedrock engine. I'm sure it would also be really nice for you all not to have to maintain the Java codebase as well.
Or -- at least add cross-platform play to the Java Edition.

Please make bedrock available for Mac and Linux. Have used Minecraft since the beginning but is now left to play old legacy game. Please consider treating your paying cusomters like just that, paying for your game.
iOS and macOS share enough codebase in common that iOS apps will soon be able to run on macOS... seems pretty silly to have Bedrock ported enough to work on an iPad but not quite enough to run as a Mac-native app.
I fully agree that failure to support Java edition is a bad idea, but definitely feel a native Bedrock version for a desktop other than Windows is a good thing. Lots of my kid's friends play Minecraft, but on so many disparate systems that he can't have everyone play together.
I very much support this idea. However, not at the expense of Java Edition. Bedrock on Mac would be amazing, and it should work with the windows 10 code that comes with the Java Edition. I think I found people prefer Mac or Linux over Windows, then they should not have to pay the price of not having game so you like. I think if Mac and Linux joined the Bedrock community, a lot of people would have bedrock on macs.
People like me still want to play Java! Maybe, they could sync the two versions up. However, simply getting rid of it isn't the best idea. I do understand your argument, but there could be different ways of dealing with the issue.
+1
Bring Bedrock Edition to Mac please :)
If Bedrock can run on iOS, it can run on MacOS. Apple even made a big deal of the fact that you can now fairly easily port iOS stuff to MacOS at their developer conference back in June.
Please make it so.
I want a Bedrock Edition on Mac, but not at the expense of Java Edition.
(And am I the only person who feels that the only PC Bedrock is on being Windows 10 not primarily because of trouble porting it?)
I'm sure moving from java to bedrock is hard. But you already switched iOS under bedrock edition. Please make bedrock edition available for MacOS (at least) !
I would love to host Bedrock servers on my Mac for mobile devices and Java for computers.
Java Edition needs to become the Bedrock edition by updating them so they are both the same, then they should scrap the Java edition and have everyone on 1 version.
It would take a long time though...
I'd buy bedrock for Mac. I love being able to play with my children on their iPads, but sometimes it's a big PITA to do so from my Xbox or on Windows. Mac OS is my preferred OS, and right now the best option to play on a Mac is to open up OneCast on my Mac and deal with the poor game streaming it offers.
So that would be the 5th time I've bought Minecraft (iOS, Java, Xbox, Switch). I'd gladly do it, I'm Fry, screaming SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.
In the name of cross-platform play, which is what Minecraft has become synonymous with now a days, this should be done. It would be amazing if others were able to play this great game natively on MacOS with their friends without having to dual-boot which adds a layer of inconvenience. Instead of having to do split screen it would be heck of a lot more beneficial just to pop out the MacBook and play away each with their own screen. I hope this ends up happening because of Microsoft's corporate culture has changed to embraced their competitors and work with them by offering brilliant software, Minecraft Bedrock Engine would simply be one of those great additions.
Make it happen already, it's a no-brainer!
Plus freakin' one.
As others have said:
- it's already on iOS which should mean it can run with little modification on OSX
- Education edition is apparently bedrock, so it _aready_ runs on OSX
Plus
- I am a web developer in a mixed OS house, but my computers are always macbooks - I don't want to, and will not buy windows and install it just to play minecraft bedrock, but I would sure buy a second copy of minecraft if it meant being able to script and build add-ons cross platform, from my own laptop. The scripting API is even in javascript! - do you know how many nerds write javascript on macs all day long AND love minecraft? Enough to add serious value to bedrock community.
I finally swallowed my pride the other day and picked up VS code as an editor ( was using atom, but that's MS too now), and it's a perfect example of a product that is giving microsoft a good name again. It's surprisingly light and fast and full of style, making it best-in-class. Steve Ballmer almost sunk the company with his insistence that everything at Microsoft revolve around Windows, but the best stuff coming out of MS now is much more democratic. Bringing this evolution of minecraft to Mac is a must and further demonstration that MS is growing and adapting to the needs of the connected world
+1 from me too for a MacOS version, please. Thank you!
Do this, currently, I have to run a Virtual Machine, not as bad as fully installing and dual booting Windows, but it does suck. Every time I want to play Minecraft, I have to switch to DirectX 9, otherwise I have to switch to DirectX 10, VMs are free, but are a pain and worsen performance, increasing lag. Please do this, if not, maybe when I learn Swift, and Objective C, I will try to port it and give it to you. I am computer-savvy enough to attempt it. Someone ported an old version to Linux, no online functionality, but I am sure if one person can do it, Mojang can do it.

I do this on a 2012 mac mini, I have been doing it since Windows 7.
After, go to the Microsoft Store, and buy Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition, or if you have the java version, you can find a download code in your account on Mojang's website.
I would love to be able to play cross platform with my siblings!
I support having bedrock and java. I want to host a server with my friends on Mac with bedrock while I’m in Vr!
There is an unofficial launcher for Linux that uses the Google Play account to download the Android version. If a fan could but not microsoft, it's really for economic interests
I do agree that Bedrock should come to Linux and Mac. Esp with linux, it should not be too difficult to port Bedrock Engine to Vulkan. IDK about Mac though, have no experience with there graphics engine.
I am working on a way to do cross-platform server play with bedrock, but its conceptual only at the current time. It would be in the form of a Minecraft Java Edition Mod that fully implements the Bedrock edition protocol and opens a separate server for bedrock edition. Then I would use the gateway proxy server, and do the same thing but switch it to the bedrock target when a bedrock client connects
I have 5 kids, four macs, one switch, one Xbox, one PS4 and two PCs across my partner and I. Not being able to run the same content or easily interconnect these despite a surfeit of licenses is a massive frustration. The sadness over missing out on cats and pandas on the Macbooks was pretty awful in the 8-11 year old band.
Please Please PLEASE support Linux. We are a Linux household and haven't been playing with one of our closest minecraft buddies for the last few years since we'd have to buy windows 10 and/or whole new devices to support playing together..
I have been playing Minecraft since the early beta days and now my son is starting to become interested. I recently redeemed my free Win 10 edition and found that it runs much smoother in my Mac (via boot camp) than the Java version does. If I could have the streamlined bedrock edition run natively on my Mac and be able to keep the same access across platform then I would happily invest more in a tablet or console version as well.
