Let's talk about the new pause feature! (Bedrock)

    To match Java further, the game should also pause when writing on a Sign/Hanging Sign, writing in a Book, in certain screens like the loading and credits screens, and when confirming whether to leave the game or not through the You Died screen. If I missed anywhere else where the game were to pause on Java, should apply to Bedrock as well.

    Edit: Here's some more areas on where the game should pause on Bedrock: when your controller disconnects and when the game is idle.

    I'd even argue for the option to log me out if someone logs in when I'm paused.

    We used to be able to properly pause the game back on the Xbox 360/Xbox One Versions, so I'd be very glady if that could return.

    If you are in a local world you host in multiplayer, the game should pause entirely once every single player that has joined is on the pause menu.

    Thank you for implementing this heavily requested feature. To get straight to the point, here are a few things involving this pausing feature that should be addressed:

    1. Please use this new pausing function to properly fix the various bugs that have been haphazardly addressed or not fixed at all. These issues include:

    • MCPE-186726/MCPE-186753 (Entities (Armor Stands, Villagers) drop down one block when reloaded)
    • MCPE-42310 (Players can spawn in and take damage or die before the world loads correctly)
    • MCPE-180268 (When you open a world, simulation begins before chunks, entities, redstone, and player controls finish loading)

    2. Please allow the game to be paused when playing Couch/Local Co-op Multiplayer if not already possible.

    3. Please consider adding the /tick freeze command to bedrock in a future update now that the game has the ability to pause.

    4. The pause function should also pause all background music or sounds in the game. For more information, please see MCPE-188466.

    5. Please try to achieve full parity on the pause mechanic. Where the game decides to freeze or not freeze should be the same on both versions of the game.

    This is a great feature, this is a good step in the right direction for bedrock edition, and bringing parity closer with java!

    HOLY COW YOU GUYS FINALLY DID IT!!!!!!!! I have 650 HOURS on the Switch and it drove me crazy how there's no pausing in singleplayer!!! (Of course Legacy console edition had this from the start and it was taken away in the conversion to Bedrock grumble grumble)

    I agree with what some others are saying in that it should match Java edition in every case where Java pauses. Also there's some delay between opening the menu and it pausing so it feels a little sluggish. In my opinion, the background should be dimmed in the pause menu to better reflect that it's paused and it would look better to me. 

    Anyway this is a GREAT step forward in improving Bedrock! Good job on finally adding it!

    This feature was wonderful addition to my bedrock edition experience until it suddenly stopped working.

    It no longer pauses on my main file that I have put all my time and effort into. I have pausing turned on and it works for every other file but this one. It seems as though something about uploading this world to realms and downloading it between multiple devices has caused some sort of issue.

    being able to Un-pause when other users join isss only a bedrock edition exclusive. java edition doesn't have this, no one would want to have others be able to unpause their game, please change this to be consistent with java.

    this would be so helpful! I love to play Minecraft while i watch my shows. Being able to pause my game would be a literal game-changer!

    Thanks for choosing to delay the Pause feature rather than releasing it unfinished in the 1.21.60 update. There are still many issues relating to pausing that must be fixed. Below you can find some of them, along with their Bug tracker codes.

    Critical Issues:

    • MCPE-188456   Unfocusing then focusing the game window causes the game to momentarily unpause.
    • MCPE-188466   Sounds still play while the game is paused.
    • MCPE-188497   Game cannot be paused when the "Operator Commands" permission is disabled.

    Graphical Issues:

    • MCPE-188478   Pause menu doesn't blur the background
    • MCPE-188510   Pause menu background is completely transparent
    • MCPE-190218   Bow, crossbow, trident, shield, and spyglass are positioned incorrectly when the game is paused (seems to affects items with attachables or data driven items).
    • MCPE-189923   Camera fade effects still plays when the game is paused.

    Movement Issues:

    • MCPE-188471   Player can't continue walking immediately after unpausing.

    Animation Issues:

    • MCPE-189995   Player models does not instantly follows camera rotation when the game is unpaused.

    I think this is a good for when your about to fall in lava or die you can pause the game to think what you can to! I have Minecraft preview and when I tried this feature it felt great to pause in midair. Keep up the great work and have a great day!

    I feel like this is nice, but the fact that when you go to another tab Minecraft pauses makes this idea a bit bad since automatic farms don't work if you're doing something else which is super annoying. I think we should add a pause button on the pause menu to pause the game, but not immediately pause the game when entering the pause menu.

    It would be nice if this also worked on a Realm--assuming you're the only one logged in--because there's functionally no reason it shouldn't as it works the same as a local server. Sure, have it gated behind the Realm Admin having to enable it in settings (I went looking just to try to do that). My friend and I just play as a pair and 30-50% of the time only one of us is playing, we simply use the Realm for convienience so we can play whenever/from wherever without worrying about someone leaving the world up. Would just be nice to have the option as Admin to allow single-player pausing on a Realm.
