I'm a purist and I somewhat disagree with this change. On peaceful difficulty, I could see arguments supporting implementing this change, as many beginner players already know that peaceful is the easiest and safest way to play the game, so I believe this adds another element of convenience and improves quality of life. However, I do not feel the same way about the implementation in easy mode. Once hostile mobs are introduced, I believe that players should become familiar with the risks associated with encountering hostile mobs throughout the world. This change highlights Mojang's interest in catering towards every play style, but as it stands, currently exposes itself as solely catering towards beginner players. If the keep inventory option was moved to a more prominent page that a beginner is more likely to see, or another element/greater difficulty was introduced for the harder difficulties to balance out this change, an update to the difficulty system in Minecraft could successfully cater to all play styles without compromising one of the game's most integral components.

I don't think that this is a good idea, because it's a too drastic change and gets to be too easy. The thrill of survival includes the risk of losing something, otherwise death is no penalty any longer and players don't try to avoid it. That way, people can even just teleport back home etc just by dying, which does not belong to normal survival gameplay.
I suggest instead of making the easy and peaceful difficulty more easy, try to make the normal and hard difficulties a little bit more difficult.

Instead of enabling keep Inventory on peaceful and easy, I'd prefer the keep Inventory button to be seperated from the enable cheats button, so that you can enable keep Inventory without having cheats enabled. Keep Inventory still should disable achievements tho.
Another option would be a seperated gamemode, so that there is a savemode besides survival and hardcore where you keep your inventory and maybe even with disabled mob griefing.

It's not a great addition to the game. Personally I feel that the game would be boring for new players when they have no risk at all during their daily commute. Work, die, respawn, without real setback from dying. Dying without setback gives no feedback to what just happened with as result making the player have no urgent need to defend themselves (which is a key part of the game) making the game more boring.

I support changing the default, but it doesn't make sense to have Keep Inventory in the "cheats" category instead of an "extra option" after this change. Everyone should be able to customize their experience without losing achievements if keeping inventory is no longer considered "too easy"

I would not do this myself. I think it is a better Idea to try to make keep inventory more clear that it exists than to do this.

I think the most annoying part of dying is the potential of losing all of your items. Not the fact that you drop items. Please implement some sort of grave system, or a dead body system where you can loot your dead body on that location that ensures all of your items are safe upon death from despawning.

I tried using mods like quark that help with this issue, where if you die, you leave a floating statue where you need to click at it a few times to retrieve your items, and it's one of the most stress relieving QoL feature. Please add some sort of this feature instead (maybe even for all gamemodes)

Keep inventory should not be a part of vanilla survival. The point of survival mode is to survive. Without consequences for death, players would have less motivation to survive. Achievements, in my mind, are awards for completing tasks while surviving. Removing the motivation or need to survive would remove some merit or sense of accomplishment from earning achievements. However, I do think that an easier mode for new players is a good idea. I think that there should be a separate tutorial mode that is in every way the same but allows for keep inventory and other modifications to make the game easier. This mode could also have a progression chart that is world specific that would provide new players a sense of accomplishment. This mode would allow new players to experience a less punishing survival Minecraft experience without changing the core of the game that some players have been enjoying for 12 years.

I think that the best way to handle this is to make it so that it ONLY applies to the Peaceful difficulty. My reasoning is that those who play on this difficulty are likely either newer or want a much smaller challenge. Giving them Keep Inventory would not change much in this sense.

Meanwhile, on Easy mode, you still want a challenge, you just may not be ready for something like Normal mode yet. In this case, Keep Inventory should be turned off. This way, newer players can start to understand what it would mean to play on higher difficulties while still not being bombarded by damage, and otherwise players who may be looking for a more casual experience can still play the game they know and love as they remember it.

The next problem is achievements, and I think the best way to solve that in this case is to remove the ability to get achievements while on peaceful mode.

These are decent changes, but you should also at least notify the player that keep inventory will be on in some way, or do something like move or add the keep inventory button to the difficulty buttons so you can freely enable and disable it.

PLEASE do not add this feature, easy mode shouldn't mean the game literally wipes your butt for you. keep inventory entirely removes any semblance of risk minecraft has. whats the point in not running around an ancient city if you can just set your spawn with a bed in the city and have literally no downside to dying? whats the point of being careful in the end while getting elytra if falling in the void doesnt do anything other than effectively teleport you back to your spawnpoint? keep inventory should stay in the game, but it should be considered a cheat, as that is what it is.

There must be an option to choose, do keep inventory, levels or not. What happened in world, must have concequences

Keep Inventory no longer being considered a cheat has been a long time coming, but I don't agree with the proposed implementation here.

Under the new system, I would feel forced to play on an easier difficulty, as playing with Keep Inventory on Hard would still be considered cheating. I disagree with the idea that making the game more difficult for myself should be considered cheating and disable achievements, Keep Inventory should not be considered a cheat regardless of difficulty level.

I play both bedrock and java with 2 group of friends, none of us would want this. If you really want to add something like this, a more elegant way would be that after a player dies 2-3 times in a short duration, open up a prompt asking them if they want to keep their inventory next time. Also when creating a world, put the keep inventory rule under the world name instead of a hidden menu. This way whoever wants it, will enable it. Most of the community does not want this but I understand new players or kids might want to have an easier time.

Personally, I like Minecraft the way it is, and don't think this is necessary. I understand that this is for new players, but to be honest, just turn the cheats on. If you're new, you don't have to care about achievements. But, in the event that they do add it, I highly suggest that there would be a way to turn it off if you want to play it on peaceful, but without keep inventory. Another point I have, would be to make it so you would lose your levels, not your items. Keep inventory completely removes the risk of the game, so it would be better to at least take something away after dying. Finally, there should at least be a way to turn it off, and, if not, take away levels after dying.

I'm worried that removing the items dropping (by default) will make the experience far less engaging and memorable for new players.

The toggle could be added directly to the difficulty selection with perhaps even a highlight, but should be turned off by default for anything else except maybe peaceful (since at that point you're not really engaging with the death mechanics). I don't mind achievements one way or another.

Some of my personal strongest memories of the game are from the very first moments, just trying to figure out the world, digging holes without torches and making shacks without doors, only to be found by a creeper or the like. You need something that sticks with the player, something they'll remember and talk about with their friends. Without any challenge or risk at all, I feel many could lose interest from the passivity of the experience.

    Make it optional

I agree with making easy and peaceful difficulties easier. It allows for players to enjoy the game. On the other hand, I feel that hard mode has become too easy overtime. I feel that a good change whether it's added to hard mode or a different system that is progression based. When a player makes certain achievements in the world there should be changes to increase the likelihood of mobs spawning with armor or just a general attribute buff. Maybe that could be too advanced, but some other things could be allowing mobs to have size variance similar to how baby zombies and regular zombies work. On the lower size end, they are faster, while larger mobs do more damage and have higher health.

i think a good idea would instead showing the keep inventory under the easy and peaceful diffuculties so you can turn it off

I feel like this should not be enforced.

A good approach in my opinion would be the toggle for keep inventory pop up under the difficulty buttons when you select peaceful or easy while creating a world and have it be on by default with an indication. (maybe a popup when selecting Peaceful/Easy about being able to turn off the setting)

People don't tend to like changes like this cause they like consistency and when something is updated to be less consistent they are deterred away from it, which I feel like is the opposite of what Mojang is trying to accomplish.

Also people bring up achievements. I feel like there should still be a debate on if they should work or not. I myself get that Mojang wants the younger kids to have it easier to get them, but at the same time they are Achievements after all.

I think you should leave Easy difficulty as it was, and add a "Very Easy" difficulty, that's the same as Easy but with keepInventory enabled. Players would still enjoy Easy as it was, while others would get the option you want to give other players.

Or you could just keep the toggle, since Minecraft is supposed to be the players game. Allow them to toggle keep inventory on whatever game mode they want or don't want. It's not that hard. When Stardew Valley changes an extreme core mechanic like RNG, the dev implemented an option to bring back old RNG.

I do think it would be best to have the option to turn keep inventory next to the create world button. that allows new players creating a world to see that option right there rather than think it is a cheat and leave it off.

the achievements still being available with it on is fine, but keep inventory always having to be on while playing at a lower difficulty isn't. the best move would be to have it on by default, but be able to disable it.

What if you made so if you were on peaceful/easy when you died your items dropped and they wouldn't despawn, (This would only happen if you died) maybe they could be in a gravestone. In normal mode, it would despawn normally and in hard/hardcore, items wouldn't drop on death. Of course, this would be togglable. Open to this idea being changed and it's just a suggestion.

i think is a big idea, but  is so op, if you will die you only go to be easy or peaceful but if the most players dont change her world dificulty, it will be perfect.

This may be good for bedrock, but it should never come to java. The essence of Java edition would be lost, also the way achievements work on java is very different. Please do not add this to java for "parity"!

Bedrock player here, please, PLEASE just make this a toggleable feature. Don't force it to be on.
