in order to give players more reasons to enter the Pale Garden, a special breed of white Pumpkins, Pale Pumpkins, should grow within it. it can be used for the same recipes as normal Pumpkins, but can be used on snow golem to give them some extra style. these can also be sheared, and crafted into pale lanterns with a torch, or a Pale Soul lantern using a soul torch instead

Add woodpeckers, so the pecking sounds can be mistaken with the Creaking sounds. It would be nice to confuse the player, and add to the eerie vibe of pale garden.

Please add reasons to go to pale garden biome, maybe add loot for creaking heart block, maybe new structure as like as other biomes. For example: Desert has temple it's pyramids, Jungle has own temple, Swamp has. Please add maybe structure, maybe temple like reason to go to this biome. It's not very interesting if we don't get loots, we can't find structure. Please add new structure or temple or new loots

The concept is good, but I still feel it lacks identity.

Trees: They could have a different shape to help give the atmosphere a more distinctive look. They could be taller or more robust; the point is for them to be different and contribute to the overall idea.

New block variants: The same applies here as with the trees; it's not necessary to add a large number of blocks. Maybe a new variation of stone or mud (clay) would help enhance the atmosphere.

Random sounds: I understand that mobs are supposed to follow this rule where the biome needs to be silent. So, why not add ambient sounds? These "random" sounds could distract the player, giving more opportunities for the creaking and making the experience more immersive.

A more characteristic mob: This idea revolves around the creaking. Here, more animations could be added, including static animations (like freezing in place to avoid alarming the player). Additionally, it could be interesting if the creaking doesn't react to its surroundings, for example, if an explosion doesn't change its position or if a water current doesn't affect it, making it more imposing. Lastly, the creaking could reach its goal with players (which is to get close to them). How? Simple: by climbing or scaling blocks to reach players in high places and crawling to find hidden players (this could also add more animations).

My feedback probably goes beyond the scope of this post, but I think there are some areas where the game could be improved using some ideas introduced with the pale garden. Anyway, here's the list:

    • Different tree shape, or at least more height variation
    • Regular dark forests could also use more height variation, or taller trees in general
    • Using shears on pale moss carpets should remove the extra bit growing on adjacent block sides
    • Make regular moss carpets behave like pale moss carpets (growing on block sides)
    • Add regular hanging moss
    • Allow blocks like weeping vines, cave vines, hanging roots and spore blossoms to be placed below leaves, lust like hanging moss
    • I really like the unique sky color and I think some other biomes could use more varied sky/fog colors (e.g. swamps, mushroom island)
    • Some dangerous ground vegetation could be interesting and make this biome more threatening (e.g. a prickly "pale dead bush")
    • I'm glad you changed pale oak leaves so that they keep their unique color when placed in other biomes, and I think mangrove leaves should also keep their mangrove swamp colors in all biomes

    Wakeing at Midnight.

Survival in the Pale Garden doesn't feel that different than in any other overworld biome - maybe this is intentional, but it'd be nice to be forced to interact with the creaking more.

I think if you sleep in the Pale Garden biome, you should wake at Midnight.

Maybe some tall spikes or pillars around the biome border would make the quite hard biome border feel weird and mystical. Bone pillars or deepslate pillars could work well.

At the moment the border between the biomes is quite harsh (it is kinda cool too).

The biomes I explored were really small, it would be great if they were bigger!

And I'm a big fan of the idea of changing the biome's name to The Pale Forest!

I really like the new blocks and the eerie aesthetic the biome offers.

A lot of people are saying to add a new structure; however, I actually disagree on that. Looking back, the cherry grove from Trails and Tales added a new wood type, a new flower with the pink petals, and no new structures or mobs. As a biome it turned out well.

Comparing that to the Pale Garden, we have a new white wood type, new plants in the form of the moss and vines, and a whole new mob. There's already plenty to be enjoyed.

If there needs to be structure, a new one would be cool yes, but simply reusing either the woodland mansion or the trail ruin could suffice too.

I didn’t like the fact that the sky changes when you enter the biome, as it’s the only biome that does that, which might feel 'strange' to some people. In my opinion, the biome also lacks physical structures, such as villages or even dungeons.

Other than that, I loved the update.

The Pale Garden should not be a variant of Dark Oak forests: it should be its own biome, and it should have variants that act as its border to other biomes.  The PG core biome should have its own tree shape for the Pale Oak (something that looks more willowy than the current model). This would allow it to have its own terrain generation, further allowing the team to customise its "feel".

Then there should be a Pale Garden variant for each tree-bearing biome (PaleGardenForest,  PaleGardenSwamp,  PaleGardenJungle, etc) that uses the terrain generation of the other biome, and generates Pale Oak trees using the shapes in that other biome: so  PaleGardenJungle, for example, would generate Pale Oaks that use the shape-pattern of jungle trees, but be made out of the Pale Oak blocks. Another example would be that PaleGardenFlowerForest variants would only contain white flowers.

Pale gardens generate, and then are boarded by the variant that matches the adjoining biome, so that it seems like it's "spilling over" a little bit and infecting its surroundings.  To make the features work, Creaking Hearts should accept both logs and leaves as appropriate "surround" options to trigger its ambient noises; this would make it compatible with the 1x1 trees.

Applying bone meal to the pale moss should have a chance to generate a pale oak sapling on top of the new moss, similar to how Azalea saplings appear for normal moss.

This would create an alternative source of saplings, which would resolve the ongoing and very frustrating issue with very low sapling production from dark oak shaped trees, leading to the need to cut down dozens of trees to obtain a stable supply of saplings.

Since pale oaks require a 2x2 sapling shape it is incredibly unlikely that moss-generated saplings could grow into a tree without a player re-planting then, which would keep azaleas unique in their ability to be moss-generated and then grown to full trees.

The new Pale Garden is a variation of the Dark Forest Biome,

It would be esthetic to add a small and treesized mushroom to the the garden.

Maybe tying it together with the suggested 'add Fog feedback': this mushroom would emit a fog in a certain area around itself. With this you can add fog to your own base by placing this mushroom in it.

    Sniffer idea

A Sniffer on Pale Moss would find seeds for a weird ancient mushroom.

    1. A great idea would be to add fog or other particles for the new biome. This would improve the atmosphere. Perhaps the source of these particles would be a unique plant that could be harvested.

    2. I noticed that the new biome is relatively small. It would be great to make it larger to make it seem more substantial and rich.

You could make pale planks dyeable. The whitest planks would be "White Pale Planks".

I believe that it is not worth to be in the biome at night. I would love to have a motivation to be there. Maybe a dungeon only available then. Or a crop growing at night.

Besides the tree shape it too similar to Dark Oak. I would like it to be more twisting or lush. Maybe the hanging gray moss should change texture at night and be darker at night to decrease visibility.

The ability to use a comparator on a creaking heart in order to track the distance between the heart and its spawned creaking.

since this biome is a dark, foggy place, I think some new mushrooms would be a good fit.

I think the pale garden could include a small plant that blinds the player for a few seconds on physical contact. While a player is blinded, any creaking mobs should continue approaching, even if the player is looking towards them.

This should add an additional layer of challenge and tension while dealing with the creaking, as the player must avoid touching these plants to maintain a safe distance.

Things I love: the creaking’s design, the strange way pale moss crawls up blocks, the hanging moss, definitely the ambient sound cues!

Since the Pale Garden is a drop for winter, I’m going to categorize my ideas for additions based on the difficulty of implementation I think they would have if implemented.

    Easily Implemented Suggestions:

Since the trees require 2x2 sapling placement to grow, what if to help add more vegetation to this garden, lone pale oak saplings naturally spawn on the forest floor during world generation?

What if very rare skeleton skulls naturally spawned on the ground in the biome? This would be so rare that you may not find one in small patches of the biome. Skulls would be at least rare or rarer than creaking hearts.

    Longer to Finalize:

What if when the player is killed by a creaking, a single pale oak sapling is generated at the spot if those ground blocks are blocks that a sapling can be placed on? It could act like a cool marker of the player’s death and could have cool lore implications. If other, sparse saplings are spawned naturally at world generation, the player noticing this could add to the subtle horror of this biome. This along with very rare skulls could enhance this quiet horror.

I love the new Pale Garden, but I feel like it needs some sort of fog at night, less hostile mob spawning, and maybe a unique structure of some kind to give it another reason to return, other than to just get the foliage and leave.

I would think it's cool if the new biome didn't appear in the Overworld, but in the End. I know it might be difficult to implement now, but the color of the wood and the overall vibe of this biome would fit really well in the End, especially since the End really needs new biomes.

I believe the dirt part of the grass in this biome should be replaced by a pale version of itself. I think it would be a nice touch.

I think since the Creaking is asymetrical, maybe the trees should be asymmetrical as well to make the biome more enhanced.

The pale gardens should have a Smithing Template and a structure. Another suggestion would be fog, and Flowers because its a garden.

Besides other things that have been touched - fog, fireflies, different shaped trees, I have a few suggestions to make this a more unsettling biome:

    1. No other mobs OR frozen mobs: Whilst playing, the Creaking coming out of the tree was insanely creepy, and the terrible feeling of not being able to watch my own back - but that was ruined by zombies, creepers, and skeletons coming along. For those more experienced with the game, hostile mobs are more annoying than scary. It ruined the immersion. Something similar to the Ancient City would make the garden more quiet and give that sense of "wrongness."  OR, a creepier idea - make the mobs merely stand there and stare at you. There eyes follow, but they're almost ... dead... like the forest has taken them over.

    2. Buff The Creaking and make it even faster when you're looking away. The ambience and sound effects are amazing for both the biome and the mob.

    3. Make it impossible to sleep in this biome. You have to survive the night. Stuck in your house, forced to listen to the noises outside - pray you don't make eye contact through the window. Ignore the knocking. Don't let them in.

    4. Pale flowers, and other things people have mentioned, like the white pumpkins.

    Things I love:

    • Sound effects and the ambience.
    • The eyes - the only differing color in the biome. If fireflies or firefly particles could be added, this would make it even creepier - are those eyes? Or bugs?
    • Wearing a pumpkin head allows you to watch them move - Love it.

Possible bonus joke: Make it so you can strip them with an axe just like logs XD

It needs a structure or some other reason to go at night, at the moment, you can just collect everything in the day. Also, an idea for the trees, since they were inspired by willows, maybe make them look more like willow trees, rather than the dark oak structure they have, and a small chance to get a creaking heart in a tree that you grow from the saplings, like 1% or less.

First of all, I'm really loving this biome so far. I love that we're finally getting a white wood type as I feel like that is something that this game has been needing. There are a few things that I would love to see implemented.

    1. Biome Fog: It's been mentioned a lot in this thread already, but is definitely worth repeating: having a really dense biome fog would be so helpful in creating a dense forest where danger could be lurking at every turn

    2. Mob spawning: I feel like mob spawning needs to be limited to certain mobs. It was really fun walking through the pale garden at night, and I love that it feels completely different from any other biome, but the immersion broke whenever I saw a creeper or a zombie because that bright green stands out so much. Spawning should be limited to just the mobs that have a desaturated color palette, such as the skeleton or spider, as they blend in better with the biome.

    3. Azaela Trees: On a similar note to the above point, when an azalea tree spawns in the pale garden it really stands out as a very bright green. While I love that azaela leaves don't change color based on biome, I feel like they might have to in this one biome. To me, it would also give some deeper meaning behind the biome, like it's sucking all of the color out of the blocks

Again, I really love this biome so far and how it gives a completely different feel to the game. I already have so many ideas of what I can build in my ongoing survival world when the update comes out!

I love the pale garden so far, but I agree we'd love some additions:

    1. White pumpkins seem like an easier addition with a massive reward for builders and aesthetics.

    2. Pale mushroom variants would be sweet as well. I also like the idea of a pale green iridescence to them.

    3. Something only I seem to be interested in is a new liquid, specifically pitch — either a sap or tar like substance that slows movement, but isn't harmful.

3b: Pitch could be lit on fire to make pitchstone; and there could be pitchstone boulders spread in the Pale Garden like in the taiga.

    4. I'm with the people who want a more willow tree style tree for the pale gardens. Would it be terribly difficult to code in?

    5. Of course the fog in the biome at night would be awesome. Seems possible since rain affects sight distance already, but I understand if it'd be a challenge for this time-frame

Ultimately, thanks devs for everything that you do and we trust you to make the best with the resources you have!
