A group of creaking should be called a bramble, gnarl, or forest.

Let the creaking be able to climb. right now all you need to do is dig a 2 block hole under it and its taken care of.

Seeing how other mobs interact with the Creaking would be fun:

    • Adult Villagers know to keep looking at it but don't move closer
    • Baby Villagers bring it a flower, much like with iron golems
    • Pillagers shoot it, making it now easy to see and more menacing with arrows sticking out
    • Vindicators try to chop it with their axes, dropping sticks or leaves (much like wolves leave wool and raw mutton from sheep)
    • Witches hex it and make it bigger or more powerful

If Illagers had unique reactions, that would also give a great reason to set Illager campsites in Pale Garden "Clearings". Walls of logs are places like old 1700s American settlements with Tents and campfires.

The big thing about the creaking is it invokes fear because of the mystery and fear of "something is here but where is it" and The Creaking's behaviors should show that. So here's a few ideas

    - When the player looks away from the creaking instead of always heading straight for the player to attack it instead has a small chance to hide behind a nearby tree out of sight so that when the player turns around the Creaking has vanished leaving the player in fear of where it vanished too.

-When there are multiple Creakings in an area have them work together. So if there are two one would attempt to attack the player from the front while the other tries for behind creating predicaments for the player where they have to panic.

-Have a stalk and a hunt mode, where the creaking sticks by trees and just watches the player not chasing after until the player gets close enough or looks away long enough in which the Creaking then enters its hunt mode and chases down the player.

One other thing I want to say is its far too easy for a player to just run straight by all the creakings and be perfectly fine because they cant catch up without ever having to worry about them, so perhaps add a momentum mechanic to the Creaking? Where the longer the player doesn't look at them the more speed they are able to build up allowing them to catch up a running player who is ignoring them and just running attempting past the Creaking? Its either that or give it a dart that gives the player slowness.

make the creaking able to climb up blocks. this would allow it to get out of holes.

maybe the creaking heart could disable when it detects a piston head directly underneath, its not so quick to set up that it would be an overpowered strategy in the biome But it would allow players to have even more control over the creaking in their own builds.

the inconsistency between piston pushing and player breaking could be confusing though

If the creaking hits you, there is a chance you are infected with a spore, giving you a cursed 'spore effect'. Some time later, the spore leaves you, and you are cured of the spore effect. At this time, the spore leaving you creates a new creaking heart within the nearest tree. After 3 day cycles, that tree will turn into a pale oak, and it will be able to summon a new creaking.

Instead of despawning during the day, the Creaking should freeze in place and close its eyes so it just looks like an unassuming dead tree... Then players can still use them for illager repellants or farms without it only functioning at night.

It would also just be really eerie and creepy seeing them motionless during the day, especially if you knew nothing about them and just stumbled upon the biome by chance.

I think creaking is gonna be near the tree at day, but it will has closed eyes. When you walk near it at day it will do nothing. But at night it will open eyes and it will attack players.

Perhaps the creaking heart could have an area effect that causes a fog to affect the player. This effect could stack with the number of hearts in the area so as you go deeper into the garden where perhaps there are more hearts the fog gets thicker. This could make the creaking appear harder as it becomes harder to see especially when multiple creakings attack. Then perhaps this fog effect still works when the heart is mined by the player. This would allow the player to create a fog effect for their builds or minigames. Just like how the heart doesn't activate unless there are two logs above and below the heart the fog effect can be the same giving the player control of the fog with pistons, just has to contain the creaking somehow. Perhaps for naturally generated hearts the fog effect only works at night but for mined hearts, the effect works regardless of the time of day. Then if a player doesn't want the fog perhaps the heart can be stripped with an axe that removes the fog ability from the heart.

I think the creaking needs to quickly limp or hobble when it moves, to make it feel more lopsided.

I LOVE the design and concept of the creaking. I've always wanted a stealth/stalker type mob in the game. the thing is, the creaking in its current state doesn't fully sell that effect.

there are two small tweaks that would make the creaking truly horrifying.

1:  closing eyes: while I do love the idea of turning around and seeing those bright orange eyes in the distance. the fact that they are so obvious can take away from the creepiness AND stealth of the creaking.  An easy fix would be to have the creaking shut its eyes one by one when observed. this would still allow you to maybe catch a glimpse of its eyes, but allow it to blend in if you aren't paying good attention.

2: stopping in place: right now when the creaking is observed, it returns to its idle stance. I can see how this makes sense because its trying to stand strait up like a tree would, BUT, the fact that it can be spotted doing this(along with sliding a bit) is the main reason the creaking is not as scary as it could be. an easy and Super effective fix, would be to make the creaking pause mid-walk animation. even if it still slides a bit, the fact that it just completely stops all movement would be MUCH more unsettling.

these changes alone would make the creaking perfect as is, but a couple extra things you could change to give it just a bit more substance

    - A better spawning animation (a similar one to the warden would be nice)

    - more damage and speed (everyone agrees that this is needed)

At the moment, the pale garden lacks incentive to go there at night and face the creaking. To combat this problem, one solution would be to give a unique drop to the creaking. I have made a post on this feel free to check it out.

    add it

I love the overall addition, and I think that many of the comments have great ideas.

    1.  The Creaking should be more mysterious and hide better.
    2.  The Creaking should hide behind trees sometimes when chasing a player to disappear.
    3.  Someone said there should be a stalk and hunt mode, and I think that should definitely be added, it sounds amazing. It could start by stalking you but some event makes it hunt and try to attack you.
    4. It definitely should be faster
    5.  It would be cool if there was some thick fog in this biome to make it even harder to see the trees and really sell the effect.
    6.  Adding fireflies that are the same color as the Creakings is GENIUS, it would make it even harder to see the Creaking!!!!!!
    7. One of the most important things that needs to be added is a reason to go there that could actually tie into the game somehow. A big problem with many of the new mob releases is that they don't effect how you beat the game, and even if they do affect the game, it's only in one part of it. I'm fine with the mobs that are there for a side quest, but it needs to tie in better. Otherwise all the newmobs and features being added over the years will really clog up the game.
    8. why cant i delete this bullet point lol Thanks for reading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it would be better if Creaking Heart drops an XP orb when destroyed without Silk Touch.
Also, if Creaking is respawned, if a Soul Campfire is placed near Creaking heart, it would be good to be friendly to players and villagers and hostile to monsters.

Some people have mentioned plants that look like creaking eyes, I think this is a great idea! I doubt it could do its job well enough to actually fool someone but it will still force you to check twice and give you a few jump scares!

I also think the Creaking should close its eyes when the player is far away, this would prevent you from seeing it from a distance, but when it gets closer (maybe like around 7 blocks away) it opens them. If the creaking eye plant does the same thing then it would be a thousand times more convincing and really cause a scare!

I agree that the Creaking is currently way to weak, the only way its going to invoke that feeling of terror that it was intended to cause is if its powerful enough to kill you. It's also too easy to escape, the Warden is scary because escaping it is hard and requires a little luck, the slightest mistake could result certain death. So to make it harder to escape, the Creaking needs to be at least as fast as the player, preferably faster. It also needs to have some built in mechanism for avoiding traps, this is the most trappable mob in the game, I think it should be impossible to break the block directly below it, it needs to be able to scale two block tall walls, and if unable to pathfind to the player (i.e. the player sounded the Creaking in dirt) than it should disappear and respawn.

Obviously the Creaking can't be as powerful as the Warden, because it often fights in groups of two or even three, but it needs to at least be threatening. Perhaps it should, as some other people have suggested, ignore armor so that its not to hard for beginners but not too easy for experienced players.

I feel the creaking should drop some reward for killing it, and if not, it should do way more damage than just 1 heart without armor...

In order to avoid players destroying the pale garden completely, the creaking should have the ability to plant pale garden saplings which can grow to have more creaking hearts. Maybe if a player is killed by a creaking, a sapling is planted and will grow into a tree by the time they return to where they died.

When a creaking hits you, you should get a slowness effect so it becomes faster than you and you have to look at it to keep it away. They should also be able to disguise themselves as plants. Maybe in the day they'll only attack you if you break the block they've disguised as. Or maybe they get mad and reveal themselves when you break log, leaf or grass blocks. they should also be able to plant saplings that grow with new creaking hearts to prevent the pale garden being deforested. creaking hearts should look like log blocks in the day and only reveal themselves at night. Creaking should have a low damage ranged attack or maybe a long range melee attack like a vine whip with high knock-back so players don't just tower up to escape. Or they could have a special attack to make it so players fall through any leaf blocks they're standing on. That way players don't just climb up on the trees to escape.

Swords with Fire Aspect, or bows with Flame should be able to hurt the creaking regardless of the creaking heart. While on fire, the creaking should pursue the nearest player even if it is being looked at.

I think this allows the creaking to deal a lot more damage, move faster, etc. because it has more ways to be dealt with :-)

Have creaking hearts count as mobs, so you cannot sleep in the pale garden to pass the night.

The Creaking should close its eyes when it's on the player's screen. There should be a slight delay so you can look around and see the eyes briefly. Then look back and see nothing. This will help the creaking sneak up on people and be more scary. You can't denEYE this is a great EYEdea!

This update is really cool but it lacks a lot of potential!

It will be really cool if you had fog for example: the deeper you go in the pale garden the harder it is to see and the mob to have diffrent phases

Phase 1 I think the new mob should give you the feeling that you are not alone.... when the sun is setting the mob should spawn far away from you so you wont see it but you will hear some loud wood  craking noises then the mob should not attack you but just watch you..

.  Phase 2 when midnight comes you would see it running in the woods or even jump scaring you

Phase 3 the mob is starting to make loud noises after some time it stopped. But next thing you know, it started attacking you after a few hits it runs away. Some small particles start appearing leading the way to the mob's heart after breaking it you can start dealing damage to the mob

My grammar is not that good but i hope you understood what i meant! :)

Perhaps Creaking could have a drop that would help upgrade the potion-making system that players have been asking for for a long time. Example, a drop from Creaking or other sources in the pale garden could be tree sap, which, when added to a potion, would increase the duration of the effect even more than redstone dust. For example, up to 20 minutes.

Pillagers with crossbows should shoot at the Creaking. It would be a really cool immersion feature.

This would also make getting Pillagers with broken weapons for decoration somewhat easier.
