Villagers Respawn Using Beds

A villager can respawn if:

  • It has a claimed bed nearby.
  • It doesn't become zombified.
  • It isn't a nitwit.

Pillagers and zombies will actively try to find and break claimed beds.

Villagers respawn as:

  • If employed when killed, then unemployed on respawn.
  • If unemployed, then a nitwit on respawn.

Nitwits can have a bottle o' enchanting used on them to turn them into unemployed villagers.

    There is a limit on how many times a villager can respawn. A villager can only respawn a maximum of 4 times before it cannot respawn. There is also a chance the villager will not respawn, and this will depend on the times the villager has repawned.

    • If the villager never respawned before: 80% chance it respawns.
    • If the villager respawned 1 time: 60% chance it respawns.
    • If the villager respawned 2 times: 40% chance it respawns.
    • If the villager respawned 3 times: 20% chance it respawns.
    • If the villager is respawned 4 times: 0% chance it respawns.

    Even vindicators, evokers, husks, ravagers, drowned and illusioners will all try to break claimed beds. Ravagers can immediately break claimed beds, while other mobs that actively try to break claimed beds will take time to break the bed.
