You know how almost every single biome has the same ore distribution, and same crop growing speed?
This disincentivizes exploration because you can get just about everything in the biome you spawn in, only needing to explore to obtain specific resources.
I propose 2 simple fixes to change that.
1. Add more variation to ore distribution
You know how the badlands spawn 3x more gold than other biomes, or how only mountains can generate emeralds? I'm proposing the same thing, but for every biome.
Each biome has it's own ore distribution, deserts and swamps generate more coal because they're places with lots of dead plants, jungles generate more diamonds because rainforests contain gemstones, etc.
2. Change crop growing speed depending on the biome.
Have you ever made a farm in a swamp and wondered why the crops grow the same as in any other biome? Probably not, but I have. This doesn't make sense because the soil is different in every biome.
My proposal is to make crops grow faster in biomes like forests, birch forests and rivers, make them grow slower in biomes like swamps, savannahs, tall spruce forests, and make them almost stop growing in biomes like mountains, tundras, and the likes.
However, certain plants should also grow faster depending on which biome it grows in.
For example, potatoes can grow in swamps while others cannot. Same thing for wheat in savannahs
This will diversify farms alot, and also encourage exploring.
