Request to Continue Providing PDB Files in Future BDS Versions

Dear Mojang Studios,
 
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing on behalf of many in the Bedrock Dedicated Server community to express our concern regarding the removal of PDB files in the latest preview version (1.21.10). Historically, PDB files have been crucial for debugging and maintaining plugins loader that enhance the BDS experience. Their absence in future releases could have severe negative impacts on our community.
 
PDB files provide essential debugging information that allows developers to create and maintain plugins loader effectively. Without these files, updating and ensuring plugin compatibility with new BDS versions becomes exceedingly difficult, potentially leading to a decline in available custom plugins and tools.
 
A lot of bedrock servers rely on a wide range of plugins to offer unique experiences and manage server operations. The lack of PDB files hinders the ability to debug and update these plugins loader, which could result in server closures and negatively affect the player community.
 
While we understand the security concerns that may have led to this decision, we believe alternative measures can address these issues without compromising development needs.
 
We urge the BDS development team to reconsider the removal of PDB files. Maintaining these files is vital for the continued health and growth of the BDS community. We hope to finding a solution that addresses security while supporting development.

    Please don't remove PDBs from Minecraft, Microsoft/Mojang. It's vital to a functional modding scene, and if you are to eventually discontinue Minecraft: Java Edition, we (as the Java community) will all dismiss Bedrock as a viable replacement (and continue to use the outdated Java Edition) if PDBs are not restored to Bedrock.

    Bedrock already doesnt have very many mods by itself, but removing the PDB files are making so there can be little to none mods left on bedrock.

    This game gets horrendously boring without the addons, and there are so many talented faces that are growing their ability through addon making. Don't discourage them by making it harder.

    The removal of PDB files hurts development and our ability to create. Making decisions like this without discussion with the community is unproductive and only creates issues.

    1) It's the right thing to do.

    2) Supporting user-generated content in an open way is one of Minecraft's most outstanding features. Removing or hindering this process in any way detracts from the game's appeal, and will lead to lower success in your game. It's more profitable for you to promote the things that make the game appealing.

    I play on a Bedrock server, we have a plugin that allows for different mobheads and one-player sleep before it was a vanilla feature. I would hate to see the server I’ve played on for the last many months to be shut down just because the PDB files were removed.

    100% agree. PDB’s are vital to much of the Bedrock experience. It very clearly causes more damage than it fixes.

    I haven't checked, but I feel like this might disable me from using Geyser...

    I have friends who can't play Java, and friends who can't play bedrock, and Geyser allows me to unite them both.
    If I can't have that anymore, then... I guess you can't have us in your game :/

    Even though I'm not a Bedrock player I still stand firm in saying that Minecraft modding is important no matter the platform you play on. Bedrock players need modding as much as Java players do
