Deepslate is, practically speaking, substitute of stone, as it can replace stone in various crafting recipes. However, Deepslate is non-renewable, despite being just as common as stone. So I have suggestions on how to make them renewable.
Deepslate is about as common as stone, so making it renewable is something that could help make it easier for survival builders to gather large numbers of without spending to much time gathering resources. Because Deepslate takes longer to mine and is formed underneath large amounts of blocks, it makes sense to consider it as a compressed version of stone, so with that logic there could be crafted by putting 4 cobblestone together for 1 Deepslate or 9 stone for 4 Deepslate, similar to how other stone variants like diorite are crafted.
Another suggestion is because Deepslate is found only at Y=0 below, if water touches lava or lava touches a water source at Y=0 or below, they should form Cobbled Deepslate and Deepslate respectively. This allows for players to make generators based on this mechanic and also stops the natural generation of stone/cobblestone (when water naturally comes in contact with lava) below Y=0, which break the deep and dark feel of caves below Y=0, thus maintaining the aesthetic of deep caves.
Deepslate is an extremely useful block in building, as its brick and tile variants alone allow for easily texturing plain walls, so making them renewable is really important, especially in multiplayer worlds.
