Naturally generated logs Should decay similarly to leaves

Its kind of ridiculous that you chop the bottom of a tree and it just stays there floating with the leaves and all

Instead of implementing something like the treecapitator that drops the entire tree instantly which kinda takes the effort away from gathering wood, the logs should slowly decay if a log under it is chopped.

Conditions:

  • The log decay is slower(like at minimum a whole minecraft day) then actually chopping down the tree with an ax in order to avoid making the axe less useful

  • There is a more than decent chance for a log to decay and not drop itself(its rotted, bad wood idk), in order to keep wood farms balanced or in their same state.

  • logs placed by players are not beholden to these rules

  • doesn't apply to nether "trees" but should apply to mushrooms.

  • Bonus, large 4 block trees increase decay based on how many blocks take from the trunk, maxing out at 4 adjacent block missing

Personally the benefit I see is being able to get rid of a lot of trees if you want the space without being able to harvest wood faster.

Ideally the rate of decay should be slow enough that you can only make an annoyingly inefficient semi-automatic wood farm that is worse then chopping by hand.

    The logs should simply start decaying if they are not connected to the ground (dirt/grass) or another log

    I don't agree with this. If anything, it should apply to nether fungi and not giant mushrooms, but personally I can see it applying to both, even if it doesn't end up dropping anything
